Tech & Travel Tips: August 2002

File Holder

If you receive correspondence in cardboard Priority Mail boxes, don’t just throw them away. Keep them to use as file holders. Simply cut off the top portion of the box on a slant. Your files will slide in nicely. Tape or glue several boxes together and you have a simple, lightweight filing system.

Sliding Drawer Stop

We had problems with a stubborn drawer sliding out during travel, and we came up with a simple and effective way to prevent this. We insert a yardstick down through the handles of all the drawers on the cabinet. They all stay put, no matter how bumpy or twisting the road becomes.

Door Window Treatment

My motorhome door has a nice-looking window treatment, but it was installed over clear, see-through glass. To close the curtain at night, I would have to go outside the motorhome, separate the door from the screen door, climb up on a small ladder, and remove the tie-backs. In the morning, I would have to repeat the whole procedure in reverse. To eliminate this inconvenience, I found a frosted self-adhesive paper that I cut and installed over the clear glass. It looks great and gives me privacy both day and night.

Brighten Dingy Vents

For motorhomes that have unpainted white plastic refrigerator and/or dryer vents that have turned yellow, try the following: Rub mag wheel or aluminum wheel polish on the surfaces, making sure to keep the polish off surrounding areas. Follow this with a coat of good car wax. The plastic should be white again.
