Sealing Storage Compartments

The ends of the gasket seals around my exterior storage compartments did not join together tightly, leaving a gap for dirt and water to enter the compartment. To fix the problem, I used pieces of 1/4-inch tubing (3/8-inch outside diameter), one piece for each compartment seal that needed to be fixed. To begin, mark each piece of tubing in the center. Then push the tube all the way into one side of the gasket. Using needle-nose pliers, pull the tube back into the other side of the gasket until the mark is centered in the gap. This type of tubing can be found at hardware or home improvement stores.

Sun Visor Shelves

I have found a great place to display my crafts and stuffed animals when camping. I pull the sun visors above the windshield down until they are flat and even to form a shelf for my items. My husband also made a table that fits on the steering wheel, which gives us a place to set a lamp. This gives the motor coach a more homey feeling.

Grease Gun Stand

To make lubricating my motorhome easier, I created a freestanding grease gun. The base is made of two pieces of 1-inch-square hollow metal tubing. To attach the grease gun to the base, I used two U-bolts that fit snugly over the grease gun. After measuring and marking the base pieces, I drilled holes through the top of the metal tubing and fastened the U-bolts into place. I used rubber caps to cover the ends and act as wheels. My hands are now free to hold the hose and pump the grease.

Color-Coded Restaurant Cards

Many times when we go to a rally, we meet up with old friends and go out to dinner. I have noticed that it can be difficult for the servers to keep all the food orders and checks straight. Here’s an idea that makes it easier on them. I took colored paper and cut it into small cards. When we go out, each couple receives two cards of the same color. We have green cards for one couple, yellow for another, purple for another, etc. The person waiting on us merely writes “green,” “orange,” etc., on top of each check. Every time we’ve used this system, the waiter or waitress has been grateful. Afterward, I pick up the cards for the next fun get-together with our friends.
