Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has announced two separate NHTSA recalls.
The first is recall 08V130000, which affects certain 2008 and 2009 Pulse and Icon type C motorhomes manufactured from October 26, 2007, through February 29, 2008. The potential number of units involved is 166.
On the affected motorhomes, the Manufacturer Federal Certification tag and Cargo Carrying Capacity tag were printed with an incorrect front gross axle weight rating (GAWR) value of 4,080 pounds. The correct front GAWR for these motorhomes is 4,410 pounds.
Fleetwood will provide the correct Manufacturer Federal Certification and Cargo Carrying Capacity tags and installation instructions to the motorhome owners who can affix the tags themselves. Owners who are not comfortable installing these tags can contact their dealer to have this service performed at no charge.
Owner notification for this recall was expected to begin in April 2008.
The second is recall 08V164000, which affects certain 2008 and 2009 Pulse and Icon type C motorhomes manufactured from September 28, 2007, through January 10, 2008. The potential number of units involved is 80.
On the affected motorhomes, the entry step attachment cradle/support may bend, as a result of step usage and insufficient structural material strength, possibly resulting in the risk of personal injury, vehicle, and/or other property damage.
Dealers will inspect and if necessary reinforce the entry step attachment cradle/support. The total length of time for the repair will depend on the dealer’s work schedule.
Owner notification for this recall was expected to begin in April 2008.

Newell Coach Corporation has announced two separate NHTSA recalls.
The first is recall 08V107000, which affects certain 2003 through 2008 motorhomes equipped with Caterpillar C-15 engines and Vickers hydraulic pumps manufactured from May 2002 through March 2008. The potential number of units involved is 122.
On affected coaches, the hydraulic pump input shaft may not fully engage the engine drive sprocket, causing failure of the input driveshaft. Loss of power steering assist could occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the pump with one equipped with a longer shaft. The repair is expected to take approximately four hours. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
Owner notification was completed in April 2008.
The second is recall 08V136000, which affects certain 2006 and 2007 motorhomes manufactured from May 2006 through February 2008 that are equipped with a Valid Manufacturing leveling system. The potential number of units involved is 65.
On affected coaches, the automatic height control system may inadvertently go into a mode that allows air to pass from one side to the other side in the rear suspension air bags. During travel, the coach may lean to one side or the other, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the firmware in the electronic keypad control module located in the dash of the coach. The repair is expected to take approximately 15 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
Owner notification for this recall was completed in April 2008.

Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V149000, which affects certain 2006 through 2008 Winnebago Journey and Voyage; 2006 and 2007 Winnebago Sightseer; 2006 Winnebago Adventurer and Minnie Winnie; 2007 Winnebago Access, Tour, Vectra, and Itasca Cambria; and 2007 and 2008 Itasca Horizon motorhomes equipped with Ricon platform-style wheelchair lifts. The affected motorhomes were built between January 12, 2006, and January 8, 2008. The potential number of coaches involved is 31.
The affected motorhomes fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 403, “Platform Lift Installations in Motor Vehicles.” The threshold warning system may not detect the presence of a wheelchair or mobility aid user in a certain spot within the defined threshold area. The user of the lift could be injured should the lift move unintentionally.
A Ricon service center/dealer will replace the threshold warning system metal covers and optical sensor mounting retainers with the correct parts.
