Rear View: December 2008

Judging from the amount of responses received this month, it appears that many FMCA members enjoy tickling fellow travelers’ funny bones. The question? Do you have a humorous license plate for your motorhome or towed vehicle?

* * *

We’ve been camping for a couple of years now and really enjoy it. The first year we camped with a fifth wheel; we already had a big farm truck, so it was the reasonable way to go. My son and family live in Nashville, Tennessee, and have a motorhome. We meet them occasionally and vacation together. A common topic was the fact that “we” needed a motorhome, too. Every time I said we didn’t need a motorhome, my husband said, “Why not?” This scenario went on for a while. We purchased our motorhome a year ago, and it has a license plate on the front of it that says “WHYNOT”!

We bought our Holiday Rambler to travel and not leave any of our “crew” behind. In addition to Rosanne and me, our crew consists of Bailey (a Border collie mix), Morgan (a Jack Russell mix), Kirby (a Quaker parrot), and Clancy (a cockatiel). So what better license plate than “THE ARK.” Oh, we also have a Honda Helix 250cc scooter that’s used as THE ARK’s dinghy.

We purchased our Prevost-based Marathon motor coach from a dealer in Yuma, Arizona, knowing that the original owner was comedian Tim Allen, a.k.a. “Tim the Tool Man Taylor” from the TV show “Home Improvement.” We loved the way the rear of the coach beheld his original “wing” design, as well as the small oval plate that reads “BINFORD 6100.” Since we found ourselves always referring to the coach as “The Binford,” the only fitting thing to do was add license plates reading “BINFRD.” It is amazing how many people recognize this coach as having belonged to Tim Allen and who also think the driver is Kenny Rogers, when it is actually my husband, Rodger, a Kenny Rogers look-alike. All in all, it makes for a fun time wherever we go!

We have a special license plate on the RV: “CRAMALOT.” The coach is a 1992 Allegro Bay with 110,000 wonderful miles. The other name across the cab top above the windshield reads “The Cram-A-LOT INN.”

We purchased our first motorhome in 2005 when our son was just 2 years old. When referring to the RV, he would always say “Our mohome.” So, deciding on a personalized plate for our motorhome and boat was easy: “R MOHOME” and “R MOBOAT.” The plates are now on our new 2009 Holiday Rambler Admiral and Maxum 2300SR boat.

Though this isn’t particularly humorous, it’s for sure true. We moved into a small golfing utopia here in Arizona many years ago. With it being such a nice place to live, and our advancing age, we decided that the new coach we purchased in 1998 would probably be our last RV. We still have the coach, and its license plate is “RLASTRV.”

Our coach license plate is “WE2CUSA.” Our towed vehicle license plate is “SEEUSA2.”
