Newmar Corporation has announced NHTSA recall 08V443000, which affects some 2008 and 2009 Ventana diesel-pusher motorhomes manufactured between June 2007 and August 2008. The potential number of coaches involved is 148.
On certain motorhomes, heat shield material inadvertently was omitted in the engine compartment above the primary engine exhaust system. After a period of use and because of its proximity to the unshielded primary engine exhaust system, the polyethylene moisture barrier located on the underside of the main floor above the engine compartment may experience thermal breakdown. This could result in the moisture barrier catching fire without warning.
Dealers will install the missing heat shield. The repair is expected to take approximately 45 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Country Coach Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V484000, which affects some 2006 through 2008 Affinity and Magna motorhomes manufactured from February 2005 through August 2007. The potential number of coaches involved is 238.
On certain motorhomes, “fretting corrosion” can occur between the spline couplings of both the power takeoff assembly and the fan drive hydraulic pump. This could lead to loss of power-steering assist, which can create an unsafe driving condition, possibly resulting in a crash.
Dealers will replace the fan drive hydraulic pump and the transmission-mounted dry spline power takeoff with a wet spline power takeoff and relocate the engine power steering pump to the engine power steering mechanical drive pad. The repair is expected to take approximately four hours. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period. When notified, owners will be instructed that should they experience loss of power steering or a severe reduction in the ability to steer the motorhome, they should immediately contact the Country Coach Service Center. The parts necessary for this recall were not expected to be available until mid-November (at which time the owners will be notified to bring in their vehicles for repair).

Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V502000, which affects certain 2008 and 2009 American Allegiance, American Eagle, American Heritage, American Tradition, and Revolution LE motorhomes manufactured from May 19, 2008, through August 28, 2008. The potential number of vehicles involved is 65.
Certain motorhomes fail to comply with the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 567, “Certification.” The Motor Home Manufacturer Federal Certification label was printed with the rear and intermediate tire PSI ratings reversed. A misprinted label could lead to improper vehicle loading or tire inflation, which could result in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners will be provided with correct certification labels and installation instructions, and advised to check and, if necessary, adjust tire pressures to the correct PSI. If an owner is unable to install this label or check the tire pressures, a dealer can perform these services.
Owner notification was sent on October 9, 2008. For more information about this recall, contact Fleetwood at (800) 509-3418.
