Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has announced two NHTSA recalls. The first is recall 08V503000, which affects certain 2008 and 2009 Jamboree GT and Tioga SL motorhomes manufactured from February 29, 2008, through April 23, 2008. The potential number of vehicles involved is 124.
On certain motorhomes, wiring for the front clearance lights may come in contact with a portion of the metal mounting plate and could become abraded. This could result in a fire.
Dealers will inspect the wiring and, if necessary, install a plastic snap bushing to prevent the wire from becoming abraded. The repair time is yet to be determined.
Owner notification was expected to begin in December 2008.
The second is recall 08V504000, which affects certain 2008 and 2009 Jamboree Sport and Tioga Ranger motorhomes manufactured from March 23, 2007, through October 8, 2008. The potential number of vehicles involved is 919.
On certain motorhomes, the straps for the fresh water, gray water, and black water holding tanks may experience a premature fatigue condition, which could result in one of the tanks separating from the motorhome. This could possibly result in personal injury and/or a vehicle crash.
Dealers will inspect and replace any defective straps. The repair time is yet to be determined.
Owner notification was expected to begin in December 2008.
Spartan Chassis Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08V567000, which affects certain 2005 through 2009 K2, 2006 through 2009 MG, and 2007 through 2009 MM motorhome chassis manufactured from June 22, 2004, through July 30, 2008. The potential number of units involved is 2,621.
On motorhome chassis equipped with Putnam hitches, certain portions of the hitch may fracture, which could potentially lead to vehicle separation and result in a vehicle crash, property damage, or pedestrian harm.
Dealers will replace the trailer hitch. The repair is expected to take approximately one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Saf-Holland Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 08E031000, which affects certain ADL and ADLSD transverse beam assemblies manufactured from July 1, 2007, through October 10, 2007, and installed as original equipment on certain recreation vehicles. The potential number of units involved is 2,065.
On certain motorhome chassis, the transverse beam assemblies may have a defect. In some instances, the transverse beam was not properly welded, which could result in a failure of the weld. If the weld fails, vehicle stability while cornering could be affected, resulting in a loss of vehicle control, and possibly a crash. In addition, the transverse beam could drop to the ground, causing sparks that could create a fire hazard.
Each motorhome manufacturer that has used the affected transverse beam as original equipment will file a defect report and remedy plan for their vehicles. At this time, no repair time has been determined.
For more information about this recall, owners can contact either their motorhome manufacturer or SAF-HOLLAND at (231) 773-3271. The recall began in April 2008.
