Journalist Charles Kuralt once said, “You can find your way across this country using burger joints the way a navigator uses stars.” True, the highways and byways are peppered with such eateries, but which one gets your vote? Read below to learn how several FMCA members answered this month’s question:

Where’s the best place to get a burger?

Blue Water Bistro in South Lake Tahoe, California, has absolutely the best hamburger we’ve ever had, and the coffee is right up there, too. The Bistro is on a dock and overlooks Lake Tahoe and a marina. The kitchen is on the first floor, and the eating area is on the second floor for better viewing; the serving staff has to climb the stairs hundreds of times a shift, because there’s no elevator.

The best place to get a burger? Kenai, Alaska, at the Burger Bus, one block from the visitors center. Burger Bus is an old converted bus that turns out Alaska-size burgers and fries that are the best we have found in Alaska and the Lower 48. It’s open only in the summer. Eat at a picnic table and enjoy the view and fresh air, or take your burger with you and move on down the road for more awesome scenery.

At the northwest corner of the intersection of U.S. Route 33, State Route 196, and State Route 385 in the little town of New Hampshire, Ohio, is a general store with a small take-out restaurant in the rear. That is where they concoct an extraordinary half-pound bacon-cheddar Angus burger. In my humble opinion, this huge, well-crafted sandwich could certainly qualify for “the best” hamburger out there.

Best place to get a burger: the Owl Bar & Cafe in San Antonio, New Mexico – yes, New Mexico, not Texas. It’s not fancy, but they make the greatest green chile burger ever! After you enjoy your burger, drive over to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge if you are there in fall or winter.

Future questions:
1. Name your favorite scenic road trip.
2. What famous person would you like to go motorhoming with, and why?
