Recall Corner: October 2009

November 1, 2009

Prior to finalizing the sale of its motorhome division in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. announced NHTSA recall 09V237000, which affects 2005 and 2006 model year Bounder 35E Type A motorhomes manufactured from May 14, 2004, to March 27, 2006. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 683.

When a refrigerator included in the recall is operated in the LPG mode, it may vent exhaust into the interior of the refrigerator cabinet rather than vent it to the exterior. The hot exhaust may result in heat damage to the interior of the refrigerator cabinet and could cause a fire.

A spokesperson from Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. said that due to the company’s bankruptcy filing and subsequent sale of its RV division, it is not in a position to manage any recalls. Also, a spokesperson with the new company, Fleetwood RV Inc., said that it would not be handling recalls from the previous manufacturer.

Although neither company will cover the cost of the recall, owners of motorhomes affected by the recall should have the situation remedied, since it involves safety issues.
