Caterpillar Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 09E020000, which affects 2003 through 2009 Caterpillar C15 diesel engines manufactured from April 1, 2003, to December 31, 2006, with serial number prefixes BSX, MXS, NXS. The potential number of engines involved is 147,777.
On certain engines, the variable valve actuation (VVA) oil line may wear against the P-clips retaining the oil line. This could cause an oil leak, which could result in a fire.
A Caterpillar dealer will replace the VVA oil line with a redesigned oil line. The repair is expected to take approximately 60 to 90 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times and access to the VVA line in motorhomes, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
Caterpillar is notifying each customer by mail. Customers are asked to contact their local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. If you experience problems having this service performed, contact Caterpillar at (800) 447-4986. Owner notification began in July 2009.
Fleetwood RV has announced NHTSA recall 09V486000, which involves certain model-year-2010 Jamboree Sport and Tioga Ranger model 25G Type C motorhomes manufactured from April 20, 2009, through December 7, 2009. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 60.
On certain motorhomes, the LP-gas supply line is routed through the rear wheel well and may come in contact with the chassis spring assembly, possibly damaging the LP-gas supply line. A damaged LP-gas line may result in an LP-gas leak and could result in a fire.
A Fleetwood RV dealer will inspect the routing of the LP-gas supply line and reroute its location. The repair is expected to take two hours. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Spartan Motors Chassis Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 09V478000, which affects model-year-2008 K2; model year 2008 and 2009 K3; and model year 2008 through 2010 MM motorhome chassis manufactured from April 27, 2007, through August 11, 2009. The potential number of chassis involved is 70.
Certain Spartan chassis were equipped with pneumatic and hydraulic adjustable brake pedal assemblies supplied by Kongsberg Power Products Systems Inc. Some of these assemblies could contain a drive pin that may become disengaged from the brake arm, causing separation or loosening of the pedal from the remainder of the assembly. If the drive pin becomes disengaged on the brake pedal assembly, it could result in a loss of vehicle braking function and/or cause the brake pedal to interfere with the throttle pedal function. Either condition could result in a vehicle crash.
A Spartan dealer will inspect and install a C-clamp to the brake pedal assembly. The repair is expected to take approximately one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
For more information about this recall, contact Spartan at (800) 543-4277, option 1. Owner notification was expected to begin in January 2010.
