As November moves into full swing, Americans across the land gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving (Canadians enjoy their Thanksgiving Day in October). In keeping with the spirit of the holiday, here are two FMCA members’ responses to a question we recently posed:
Have you celebrated a special Thanksgiving in your motorhome?

When we went full-time, our first Thanksgiving found us at a small campground in Louisiana “” no family; no crisp, frosty weather; and a kitchen I was still learning my way around. I was having a hard time finding my Thanksgiving spirit when we stopped at the local supermarket, where I bought a turkey breast and the rest of the fixings. On Thanksgiving I made dinner, just as always. The best part of the day was when the camp host “” a friendly old man on a battery-powered tricycle “” came by to wish us a good holiday. We invited him in, had a great visit, and sent him home with some pie. We learned early on that family is everywhere, and holidays are what you make of them. That is a great deal to be thankful for.

We would always head out for nearby Hillsboro State Park, east of Tampa, Florida, for two nights with our Airstream, our two little girls, a turkey roll with all the fixings “” and our big cardboard turkey! Tom Turkey was attached to our entrance door as soon as we pulled into our space. We had that turkey longer than we had our two girls, who are now grown. By the way, our Airstream did have an oven and four burners. The weather was always nice, allowing us to feast at the picnic table with a special holiday cover.

Future questions:
1. What do you enjoy listening to as you’re traveling down the road in the motorhome?
2. Have you ever had an unusual “stowaway” in your motorhome (i.e., a mouse or other stray animal)?
