Refrigerator Check
In recent years, both Dometic Corporation and Norcold Inc. have announced major recalls affecting refrigerators installed as original equipment or added as aftermarket equipment on recreation vehicles. Many RV owners received recall notification from the companies and had the necessary repairs made. However, if you own a motorhome equipped with a Dometic or Norcold refrigerator and have not received recall notification, or if you have recently purchased a preowned motorhome that has a Dometic or Norcold refrigerator, you may want to check to see whether your refrigerator needs to be serviced.
Owners of Dometic refrigerators can find recall information online by visiting www.dometic.com/enus/Americas/USA/Customer-Support. Once on the customer support page, click on the “RV Fridges “” Recall Information” link on the left side of the page, which will direct you to a page with information about the recall; a drop-down list of the models involved in the recall; and a box to type in your refrigerator’s serial number to find out whether it is involved in the recall. Owners also can call Dometic customer service at (800) 544-4881 for more information.
Owners of Norcold refrigerators can find recall information online by visiting http://www.norcoldrecall.com/. This site includes information about the recall, how to determine whether your refrigerator is involved, and how to get it repaired. Owners also can call Norcold’s Recall Center at (800) 767-9101 for assistance.
2010 Buick LaCrosse
I am interested in buying a new Buick LaCrosse to tow behind my motorhome, and I’m wondering whether the speedometer will register mileage while I am towing the car. Is there anything special that I will have to do in order for it not to register mileage while I am towing it?

The LaCrosse has an electronic speedometer/odometer, so it won’t accrue mileage while being towed. Simply follow the recreational towing instructions you’ll find in the vehicle’s owners manual to prep the car for towing.
Tire Brand?
We have a Georgie Boy Landau Type A motorhome that is equipped with Michelin tires. Soon I’ll need to replace four of them, and I’d like to know whether it’s okay to purchase a different brand, such as Goodyear, or is it imperative to keep them all the same brand?
Rodney Watson, F360408

The only imperative is to keep the same brand and size on the same axle “” keeping in mind that the tires’ specs must meet or exceed the original equipment tires’ specs “” because of varying outside diameter measurements between tire manufacturers.
Stuck Filter
While we were going to a rally in Tucson, Arizona, in our 2007 Monaco Executive motorhome, a dash light came on indicating that there was water in the fuel system. We pulled over, and I released some water from the fuel filter/water separator by opening the petcock. We were back on our way, but then the indictor came on again 10 miles down the road. This time, unknown to us, the petcock had frozen open. At that point the engine would not prime and the motorhome wouldn’t start. We tried to close the petcock with a pair of channel locks but were not able to.
We waited four hours for a tow truck to tow us 110 miles to Tucson. However, the tow truck had to stop before we got to a service center, because the motorhome in tow was too high to fit under a bridge up ahead us. After speaking with a Cummins representative, we were able to use another filter bowl to make it to our rally. Thank goodness we had a spare filter.
Maybe this will help others who may find themselves in this situation. Always carry a spare filter, including the plastic bowl at the bottom of the filter. My replacement was a Racor S3226p fuel filter/water separator with the plastic bowl at the bottom of this filter. Please pass this on to everyone.
