July 2012

Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced the return of its popular Era Type B motorhome to the company’s product lineup for 2012.

“The 2012 Era is nimble, maneuverable, easy-to-drive, and most important — fuel-efficient, achieving 18 to 19 mpg,” said Roger Martin, Winnebago Industries’ vice president of sales and marketing. The Era is perfect for weekend or weeklong trips, with enhanced storage and seven belted positions for seating flexibility, he noted.

The coach is built on an 11,030-pound-GVWR Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis and powered by a 3-liter Mercedes-Benz turbo-diesel engine with a five-speed automatic tip-shift transmission. It measures 24 feet 1 inch long and 76 inches wide, with a 6-foot-3-inch interior height, despite its smaller stature.

The Era is available in one floor plan, the 70X. In the cab area, the Ultraleather-covered cab seats swivel to face the two companion seats for conversation or dining when the moveable pedestal table is used. The companion seats also can be removed via a quick-release lever should more cargo space be needed. In fact, the Era offers a removable wardrobe that can substitute for the companion chair behind the driver’s seat if more storage is desired. A 22-inch LED HDTV extends and swivels 180 degrees for easy viewing from the front or rear of the motorhome.

In the rear, a powered 70-inch sofa bed folds flat into a 70-inch-by-80-inch bed at the press of a button. More storage is found underneath the sofa bed, which is accessible from outside via the large rear doors that open 270 degrees.

The galley incorporates a solid-surface countertop, a microwave oven, a two-burner range with glass cover, a refrigerator/freezer, and a stainless-steel sink with a folding faucet and glass cover.

The cab contains such features as an available “infotainment” center with GPS, including voice guidance; a CD/DVD player; and a 7-inch touch screen.

Exterior highlights include a 5,000-pound hitch, running boards, and an optional awning. An exterior accessories package is also available that includes polished stainless-steel grille bar covers and rocker panel trim.

The 2012 Era carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $94,093. It joins Winnebago Industries’ other Sprinter-based motorhomes: the Type C Winnebago View and View Profile, Itasca Navion and Navion iQ, and the Type A Winnebago Via and Itasca Reyo.
