Gerald Chavers Sr., F10014, who served as FMCA national vice president, Southeast Area, passed away in his Panama City, Florida, home on May 25, 2011. He was 89. His wife, Patricia, died soon after, on June 22. She was 86.
Gerald was born March 31, 1922, in Panama City. He was a graduate of the University of Florida and was a member of the school’s cheerleading squad. He owned and operated Furniture Mart in Panama City beginning in 1945 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Acme Masonic Lodge #222.
Patricia Chavers was born September 19, 1924, in Blytheville, Arkansas, and was a 1942 graduate of Bay High School in Panama City. She was a member of the Lynn Haven Church of Christ and a former member of the Panama City Junior Woman’s Club.
The Chaverses joined FMCA on March 1, 1979. Gerald served as Southeast Area national vice president from 1988 to 1992. He also was on the Membership/Member Services committee throughout that term in office and was a member of the Finance Committee from 1991 to 1992.
Gerald and Patricia are survived by sons Sammy (Kathy) and Gerald Jr. (Janice); three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
