Prevost Car Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 13V039000, which affects model-year 2008 through 2013 X3-45, H3-41, and H3-45 coaches; model-year 2011 through 2013 H3-45 VIP coaches; model-year 2012 and 2013 X3-45 VIP coaches; and model-year 2009 through 2013 XLII-45 Entertainer coaches manufactured from May 16, 2007, through February 6, 2013, and equipped with Volvo engines. The potential number of vehicles involved is 1,049.
On the affected coaches, certain conditions may cause the vehicle to go into a software mode that would result in the throttle signal being fixed at 1,750 rpm without the driver pressing the pedal. The inability to control throttle position may lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
A Prevost dealer will reprogram the engine control unit with new software to correct the problem. The wiring and connections between the accelerator and the vehicle electronic control unit also will be inspected and repaired, if necessary. The repair is expected to take approximately 1 hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
