Newmar Corporation has announced NHTSA recall 14V098000, which involves certain model-year 2013-2014 Bay Star Sport, Bay Star, Canyon Star, Ventana LE, Ventana, Dutch Star, Mountain Aire, and Essex motorhomes built from February 18, 2013, through November 15, 2013, and equipped with Frigidaire KG series microwave ovens. The potential number of motorhomes affected is 657.
The microwave oven models involved are CFMV152CLB and CFMV154CLS, in the serial number range KG30607951 through KG31600670. They have a defective keypad that could cause the microwave to start on its own when unattended. If the microwave oven starts on its own and there are contents inside, a fire could result. Until a repair can be made, owners should unplug the microwave, if possible. If not, owners should leave the door ajar until the microwave oven can be repaired.
Newmar has notified owners and sent an information sheet and directions on how to confirm and report the microwave model and serial number. Upon receipt of this information sheet from owners, Newmar will provide contact information to Electrolux/Frigidaire to schedule the recall repair so an authorized technician can replace the keypad.

Thor Motor Coach has announced NHTSA recall 14V267000, which involves certain model-year 2014-2015 Outlaw 29H motorhomes manufactured from January 13, 2014, through April 25, 2014. The number of motorhomes subject to the recall is 34.
On the affected vehicles, the generator exhaust might be routed too close to the onboard propane storage tank without the necessary heat shielding. Also, the generator exhaust ends underneath a slideout room. Without proper shielding, the hot exhaust piping could heat the propane tank and cause it to expand and vent off any pressure buildup, increasing the risk of a fire. In addition, the exhaust exiting below a slideout room might cause carbon monoxide to enter the vehicle, increasing the risk of asphyxiation.
Thor began notifying owners of the safety defect in June 2014. Dealers will install a new generator exhaust tailpipe that routes away from the propane tank and does not terminate under a slideout room. The repair is expected to take 30 minutes, but because of service scheduling times, the service department might need the vehicle for a longer period.

Triple E Recreational Vehicles has announced two recalls. The first is NHTSA recall 14V115000, which involves certain model-year 2014 Free Spirit FS22, FS22SS, and FS22TE motorhomes manufactured from September 2013 through March 2014. The potential number of vehicles affected is 27.
On the affected vehicles, the spare tire carrier and spare tire cover obstruct the visibility of the driver’s-side taillight. If the driver’s-side taillight is obstructed, motorists behind the vehicle may not see the motorhome driver’s intention to turn left, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Triple E will notify owners, and dealers will replace the old tire carrier with a newly designed version. The repair is expected to take approximately one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.
The recall began in April 2014.
The second Triple E recall is NHTSA recall 14V194000, which involves certain model-year 2012-2014 Free Spirit FS22 and FS22SS motorhomes and 2014 Free Spirit FS22TE motorhomes. The potential number of vehicles affected is 131.
On the affected vehicles, the 7-pole trailer plug socket is wired such that the hazard lights on a towed vehicle or trailer will not illuminate if the motorhome’s ignition is turned off. If the motorhome is towing a vehicle or trailer, the RV’s rear hazard lights may not be visible to other drivers, and if the RV’s ignition is off, the hazard lights on the towed vehicle or trailer will not illuminate, thereby reducing the vehicle’s visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
Triple E will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the trailer plug wiring. The repair is expected to take approximately one hour. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time. The recall began in May 2014.
