Recall Corner: September 2014

October 1, 2014

Allied Recreation Group Inc. has announced two recalls, both involving seat belts. The first is NHTSA recall 14V330000, which involves certain model-year 2013-2014 American Coach-brand American Eagle and American Revolution and certain 2013 American Tradition motorhomes equipped with certain Villa International powered driver and passenger seats with integrated seat belts. The potential number of affected units is 57.

In the affected vehicles, the seat belt attachment might be incorrect, and the seat belt might fray if it rubs along a steel bracket in the seat, reducing its strength. In the event of a crash, the weakened seat belt might fail to properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of injury.

Allied will notify owners, and Allied dealers will inspect the seat belt attachment hardware. If necessary, dealers will reinstall the seat belts using new hardware and add a protective sheath on the retractor side of the belt. Also, the seat belt webbing of the affected seats will be inspected, and will be replaced if damage has resulted from an incorrect installation.

Allied’s identification number for this recall is 140609ARG.

The second is NHTSA recall 14V331000, which involves certain model-year 2015 American Coach-brand American Eagle, American Tradition, and American Revolution motorhomes equipped with certain Villa International powered driver and passenger seats with integrated seat belts. The potential number of affected units is 14.

The seat belt attachment might be incorrect, and the seat belt might fray if it rubs along a steel bracket in the seat, reducing its strength. The weakened seat belt might fail to properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of injury.

Allied will notify owners, and Allied dealers will reinstall the seat belts using new fasteners and a seat belt guard. Also, the seat belt webbing of affected seats will be inspected and will be replaced if damage has resulted from an incorrect installation.

Allied’s identification number for this recall is 140615ARG.

For either recall, repairs are expected to take 30 minutes per seat. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

For more information about either recall, contact American Coach at (800) 435-7345.

Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 14V271000, which involves certain model-year 2009-2011 Allegro, 2010-2011 Allegro Bus and Allegro Breeze, and 2008-2011 Phaeton and Zephyr motorhomes equipped with LED clearance lights made by Command Electronics Inc. The potential number of motorhomes affected is 4,414.

In the affected vehicles, moisture might enter the lights and cause a short between two connections on the circuit board. A short in the circuit board increases the risk of a fire.

Tiffin has notified owners, and dealers will install a 1-amp in-line fuse in the front and rear circuits. The fuse will blow if there is a short in any of the clearance lights, thereby preventing a fire. The repair is expected to take 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

For more information about this recall, contact Tiffin Motorhomes at (256) 356-8661.

Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 14V322000, which involves certain model-year 2014-2015 Winnebago Travato, Winnebago Trend, and Itasca Viva motorhomes manufactured from November 13, 2013, through June 9, 2014, and built on the Ram ProMaster chassis. The potential number of motorhomes affected is 653.

The affected vehicles may experience circuit corrosion as a result of water intrusion around the in-floor battery cover and door footwell trim. The water intrusion might affect the operation of the vehicle and disable the air bags, stop lamps, turn signals, backup lights, and/or door locks, increasing the risk of a crash as well as increasing the risk of injury to occupants if the air bags do not deploy.

Chrysler, on behalf of Winnebago, will notify owners, and Chrysler dealers will inspect all the connections in the footwell areas, the ignition fuse, and the occupant restraint control module. If corrosion is found, Chrysler dealers will repair the connectors in the footwell area and the ignition fuse, and replace the occupant restraint control module. Chrysler also will install a water barrier sealer on the floor, add di-electric grease to all footwell connectors, and replace the body plug. The in-floor battery ignition fuse will be relocated, and di-electric grease will be added to the occupant restraint control module connector. The repairs are expected to take less than two hours. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

The recall began in July 2014. For more information, contact Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403.

  • "We were stranded along a narrow road near Bryce Canyon, Utah. The location was not a good place for cellular service, but I was able to contact Roadside Rescue and arrange for a tow after driving our towed vehicle to the town of Bryce. I had to speak with several people at Roadside Rescue, but each person I spoke with was respectful and courteous. The tow was set up and our rig taken to a place that promptly took care of the repair and we were back on the road in 24 hours." Michael & Lynn Noonan (F448134)
