Recall Corner: July 2015

July 1, 2015

Forest River Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 15V237000, which involves certain model-year 2015-2016 Coachmen Freelander motorhomes manufactured from February 14, 2014, to April 1, 2015, and certain 2015 Coachmen Leprechaun motorhomes manufactured on June 10, 2014. The affected vehicles were manufactured on a Ford 158-inch wheelbase chassis with a 5.4-liter V-8 engine. The potential number of affected vehicles is 83.

The affected vehicles may have a federal certification label, located in the driver’s-side door jamb, that incorrectly lists gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), gross axle weight rating (GAWR), and cargo carrying capacity. When such information is incorrect, the operator might overload the motorhome, increasing the risk of a crash. The gross combination weight rating (GCWR) is unaffected.

The recall was expected to begin in May 2015. Forest River will notify owners and will provide replacement labels. Forest River’s number for the recall is 51-04172015-0031. For more information, contact Coachmen customer service at (800) 453-6064.

Thor Motor Coach has announced NHTSA recall 15V224000, which involves certain model-year 2016 Four Winds, Citation, Outlaw, Chateau, Siesta, and Freedom Elite motorhomes manufactured from February 14, 2015, to April 6, 2015. The potential number of affected motorhomes is 168.

The affected vehicles may be missing the water-weight-carrying-capability information on the occupant and cargo carrying capacity (OCCC) label, which is on the motorhome’s entry door. If the motorhome is loaded to its weight capacity without including the weight of the water carried onboard, the vehicle may be overloaded, which can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall began May 1, 2015. Thor will notify owners and will provide new OCCC labels. Thor’s number for the recall is RC000099. For more information, contact Thor customer service at (877) 500-1020.
