Recall Corner: November 2015

November 1, 2015

Newmar Corporation has announced two NHTSA recalls.

The first is NHTSA recall 15V-477, which involves certain model-year 2009 to 2016 Canyon Star toy haulers manufactured from November 28, 2007, through July 9, 2015, and model-year 2007 to 2009 All Star toy haulers manufactured from January 30, 2006, through October 21, 2009. The potential number of affected units is 472.

In the affected vehicles, an unprotected flammable plastic wrap surrounding the exterior fuel dispensing system could burn if exposed to an ignition source. If the exterior fuel dispensing compartment were to catch fire, the surrounding plastic wrap material could burn, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a protective metal sheet on the top of the exterior fuel compartment. The recall was expected to begin by September 26, 2015.

The second is NHTSA recall 15V-492, which involves certain model-year 2015 to 2016 Essex and King Aire motorhomes manufactured from March 7, 2014, through June 15, 2015, and 2016 Mountain Aire motorhomes manufactured from March 9, 2015, through June 5, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 82.

In the affected motorhomes, the control module for the air suspension may experience a loss of power, resulting in the air suspension not being able to achieve ride height. If the ride height of the suspension is less than specified, the vehicle may be difficult to control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will install an independent electrical circuit to supply power to the control module.

For more information about either recall, contact Newmar customer service at (800) 731-8300.

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) has announced two NHTSA recalls.

The first is NHTSA recall 15V-530, which involves certain model-year 2016 Axis and Vegas motorhomes manufactured from March 26, 2015, through July 6, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 290. TMC’s number for the recall is RC000103.

In the affected vehicles, the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning control may lock on one setting, preventing the operator from changing the airflow, thereby eliminating the ability to defrost the windshield. If the windshield cannot be defrosted, the driver’s visibility may be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall began September 1, 2015. TMC has notified owners. Dealers will install a jumper harness to prevent the condition. The repair should take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

The second is NHTSA recall 15V-531, which involves certain model-year 2014 t0 2015 Tuscany XTE motorhomes manufactured from March 28, 2013, through February 27, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 98. TMC’s number for the recall is RC000104.

In the affected vehicles, the dinette convertible tabletop insert may slide out of position, allowing the insert to flip up if someone sits on it. If the insert flips up when sat upon, the occupant may fall, increasing the risk of injury.

The recall began September 1, 2015. TMC has notified owners. Dealers will install an additional support bracket, preventing the insert from flipping up. The repair should take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

For more information about either recall, contact TMC customer service at (877) 500-1020.

Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced two NHTSA recalls.

The first is NHTSA recall 15V-490, which involves certain model-year 2012 to 2016 Winnebago Era motorhomes manufactured from November 11, 2010, through July 20, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 1,732.

The certification label affixed to the affected motorhomes provides an incorrect front tire inflation pressure. Incorrect tire pressure information could cause an owner to underinflate or overinflate tires, increasing the risk of a tire failure and a crash. Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will provide new certification labels.

The second is NHTSA recall 15V-510, which involves certain model-year 2014 to 2015 Winnebago Vista, Brave, Trend, Minnie Winnie, and Itasca Sunstar, Tribute, Viva!, and Spirit motorhomes manufactured from March 18, 2013, through November 18, 2014. The potential number of affected vehicles is 3,307.

In the affected motorhomes, the deadbolt locks may become stuck in a locked position. A stuck deadbolt potentially could trap occupants inside, increasing the risk of injury.

Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair deadbolts as needed. The recall was expected to begin in early September 2015.

For more information about either recall, contact Winnebago customer service at (641) 585-3535.
