Hungry? If you aren’t, you might well be after reading the following descriptions of eateries and breathtaking vistas, each of which will whet your appetite. They are responses to this month’s topic:

Describe a great lunch spot that you’ve discovered in your motorhome travels.

We have discovered a great lunch (and breakfast) spot in Haines City, Florida, called Nikko’s Egg City. This eatery serves great food with fast service, huge portions, and good prices: for example, a four-egg meat-lover’s omelet with hash browns, served on a 12-inch-diameter plate. Or try the chicken salad sandwich on marbled rye with fries and coleslaw. The interior is all 1950s and ’60s, with great period music and seating, along with a large counter seating area. Black circles on the walls are original 78-rpm long-play vinyl records. You’ll even see likenesses of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. We highly recommend this central Florida eatery on U.S. 27 in Haines City (www.nikkoseggcity.com; 863-353-2698).

The Sea View snack bar, 145 Greenmanville Ave., right off the I-95 exit to Mystic Seaport, Connecticut, is a little shack with awesome fresh food cooked to order. It’s known for lobster rolls, cod sandwiches, sea scallops, belly clams, fries, and hot dogs, and the clam chowder is a favorite. A large outdoor area with picnic tables by the water provides a great view of Mystic Seaport and boats. It is a little pricey for walk-up service, but large portions can be shared. The food is delicious and worth the price. Very busy with limited parking (860-572-0096; www.seaviewsnackbar.com).

The most delightful picnic spot that we stumbled on is McKee’s Half Water Falls on U.S. 15, north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This roadside park sits next to the Susquehanna River, surrounded by trees with easy parking, and is very quiet with little traffic. We sat at our table in the motorhome eating lunch with the windows open, listening to the water in the river flowing over the rocks. After lunch we walked our dog, Wilson, down to the water’s edge for him to wade, and he was very content to sit and watch the water. We always said that when we come back up from Texas, we would be sure to stop at McKee’s Half Water Falls again!

A great place to have lunch is on the Cape Cod Canal at Scusset Beach State Reservation. The campground is on a peninsula with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the canal on the other. Last year, Massachusetts upgraded the electrical system so all sites have 50/30-amp service. There is a fishing pier for those who feel the need to catch their lunch, and across the canal are two seafood restaurants that serve fresh fish. During the season lifeguards are on duty, and a small snack bar is open. The state facility is open all year, with limited services in the winter. So grab your blanket, picnic basket, and scanner to watch all the boat traffic go by. You can bike the entire canal from one end to the other on the paved road that runs along the canal. Our children say the best is a morning cup of coffee there, watching the sun rise over the water.

Future questions:

1. What part of a motorhome trip do you like the best (driving, sight-seeing, relaxing at camp, meeting new people, etc.)? Please explain why.

2. This issue of the magazine contains travel articles, activities, and even recipes for kids. Suggest your own fun spots to explore or activities to enjoy with young RVers aboard.
