In 1976, three years after General Motors began producing GMC motorhomes, a group of proud owners in Southern California formed the GMC Pacific Cruisers chapter of FMCA. Forty years later, many GMC coaches produced from 1973 to 1978 are still going strong, and so is our chapter.
Recently we gathered at the Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard, California, to display our motorhomes as part of a vintage travel exhibit. We opened our coaches to curious members of the public who wanted to see inside.
As usual, our motorhomes attracted a lot of attention. Two GMC owners who were just driving by noticed us, stopped to see what was going on, and signed up as new members. Information about our club can be found at our chapter website, www.gmcpc.org.
We were joined at the museum by Roy McDaniel, a Western Motor Home Association vice president, and his wife, Ann. Roy presented us with a certificate and a monetary gift to mark our chapter’s 40th anniversary. He told us about the Western Area Rally to be held in Indio, California, in January 2017. It sounded like so much fun that chapter members voted to make it part of our rally schedule. We look forward to seeing the McDaniels there.
