A 50th wedding anniversary is cause for a grand celebration with friends and family. King and Jackie deBord, L16686, reached that milestone in 2002, and they held their golden jubilee during that year’s Northwest Area Rally in Moses Lake, Washington. It showed just how much FMCA meant to the couple.
“She loved meeting new people, and the friendships they built through FMCA,” Debbie Riley, one of the deBords’ three children, said of her mother.
Jacqueline Carol deBord died September 3, 2016. The Port Angeles, Washington, resident was 82. Jackie worked in banking, and retired as a branch manager.
Jackie and King were married for 64 years and spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona. King served as FMCA national vice president, Northwest Area, from 1991 to 1994, and as national vice president, International Area, from 1995 to 1996. FMCA’s Governing Board awarded life membership to King and Jackie in 2005.
The couple helped start several chapters, including the One Hundred Plus chapter, whose members have recruited at least 100 families to FMCA. Debbie said her parents also were members of several other chapters, including Northwestern Bus Nuts; Northwestern; Olympic Peninsula Ramblers; Frustrated Maestros Northwest Musical Misfits; Converted Coach; and Revconeers.
Like her husband, Jackie volunteered with FMCA’s parking layout crew, which guides motorhomes into parking spots at rallies and conventions. Jackie served countless lunches to crew members.
“She loved FMCA,” said Vivian Autry. “She was a very warm, loving person. Very friendly. Always willing to help.” Vivian and her husband, Owen, a former national vice president, Western Area, have been friends of the deBords since the 1990s.
The camaraderie the deBords found in FMCA dovetailed nicely with their love of travel. By 1976, they had visited the lower 48 states in their motorhome, their daughter said.
In addition to her daughter Debbie, Jackie is survived by her husband, King; her son, Jim; her daughter Tracey Warner; a sister, Marilyn Bernert; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
