Also, the vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. If the front air bags deploy during a crash, the inflators may rupture as a result of propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling. A rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior. Daimler Vans initially notified owners in February 2017. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module. Contact Daimler Vans (Mercedes-Benz) at (877) 762-8267.

The vehicles were manufactured without a reinforcement plate and protective bracket on the air bag control unit. The air bag control unit may not remain functional after an initial impact, possibly preventing additional air bags from deploying in response to a secondary impact. Daimler Vans expected to begin notifying owners in March 2017. Dealers will install a reinforcement plate and protective bracket around the air bag control unit. Contact Daimler Vans (Mercedes-Benz) at (877) 762-8267.
