Daimler Vans USA has issued several recalls that involve air bag inflators.
Recall 17V-478 involves certain model-year 2007-2009 Freightliner Sprinter models 2500 and 3500 and Dodge Sprinter models 2500 and 3500. This recall fully supersedes recall 15V-354 and partially supersedes recalls 16V-379 and 17V-025.
Recall 17V-479 involves certain model-year 2010-2011 Freightliner Sprinter models 2500 and 3500 and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter models 2500 and 3500. . This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-379.
Recall 17V-480 involves certain model-year 2012 Freightliner Sprinter models 2500 and 3500 and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter models 2500 and 3500. This recall supersedes recall 17V-025.
These vehicles are equipped with certain air-bag inflators assembled into the passenger frontal air-bag modules. When the passenger frontal air bag deploys during a crash, the inflators may rupture and metal fragments may strike vehicle occupants. Daimler Vans will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger-side air bag. As of press time, a notification schedule had not been set. Contact Daimler Vans at (877) 762-8267.
Recall 17V-450 involves certain model-year 2017-2018 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCM and XCPchassis equipped with Cummins ISX 15-liter engines. A fuel pump’s drive gear could slip on its driveshaft, causing a loss of fuel pump function. Cummins will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump. Recall 17V-451 involves certain model-year 2014-2017 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCR chassis. A battery cable-mounting bracket may not have been installed correctly; as a result, the battery cable can contact the frame rail, possibly chafing and short-circuiting, increasing the risk of a fire. Daimler Trucks will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, revise the battery cable-mounting bracket and cable routing. The recall was expected to begin September 14, 2017. Recall 17V-441 involves certain model-year 2018 Cornerstone motorhomes built on Spartan Motors chassis and equipped with Cummins ISX 15-liter engines. A fuel pump’s drive gear could slip on its driveshaft, causing a loss of fuel pump function. Entegra has notified owners, and Spartan service centers/Cummins distributors will replace the fuel pump. Recall 17V-408 involves all 2015-2017 Transit vehicles (including motorhomes built on Transit chassis) except 156-inch-wheelbase and 178-inch-wheelbase chassis cab and cut-away bodies. The flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft may prematurely fail, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford will notify owners, and as an interim repair, dealers will replace the flexible coupling on vehicles with more than 30,000 miles. A final remedy is being developed. Recall 17V-413 involves certain model-year 2018 London Aire, King Aire, and Essex motorhomes built on Spartan Motors chassis and equipped with Cummins ISX 15-liter engines. A fuel pump’s drive gear could slip on its driveshaft, causing a loss of fuel pump function. Spartan will notify vehicle owners, and Cummins dealers will replace the fuel pump. Recall 17V-420 involves certain model-year 2014-2018 Dutch Star and 2015-2017 Ventana motorhomes. The driver-side and passenger-side powered night shades can be lowered by using the remote when the ignition is in the “on” position, blocking the driver’s view. Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay to disable this operation when the ignition is in the “on” position. The recall was expected to begin August 29, 2017. Recall 17V-477 involves certain model-year 2017-2018 Fleetwood Discovery and Discovery LXE and Holiday Rambler Endeavor, Endeavor XE, and Admiral XE motorhomes. It also involves certain model-year 2018 Monaco Diplomat; Fleetwood Pace Arrow, Bounder, Flair, and Storm; and Holiday Rambler Navigator and Vacationer XE motorhomes. The vehicles may have been manufactured with headlights that do not have tempered glass lenses; such lenses may crack or break, causing decreased illumination and/or premature failure of the headlight bulb. REV will notify owners, and REV dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace defective lenses. The recall was expected to begin September 8, 2017. Contact REV at (800) 509-3417.
