Whether one whiles away an hour or an evening indoors, or gets moving outside, many amusements keep RVers occupied. Readers offer some of their favorites:
Tell us about a game you enjoy playing with your family or friends when RVing.
There is almost no better way to make new RVing friends than to invite them or join in games, whether indoor or outdoor. On a recent trip to Alabama in our RV, we met two fun and interesting Cajuns, Don and Janet, over games of ladder ball (some call it ladder golf). They were quite a bit better than us, but we managed to win a few games anyway. The laughter was the real ice breaker! We also love Mexican Train when the weather runs us indoors; we have passed many hours with new and old friends playing this fun game. For exercise, and to get to know new RVers, we always have our pickleball paddles handy and will join pickup games if the park in which we are staying has a court. Oh, the pleasure we get from meeting new friends and sharing stories as we play any one of these games while RVing.

We enjoy playing a variety of games, depending upon the age and number of people with us. Phase 10, a card game, is always enjoyable if there are more than two of us. With two, three, or four we play cribbage. No matter the number or ages of players, Yahtzee is popular as well. I understand there are now large dice for playing Yahtzee outside. Dominoes are well liked, whether we play Mexican Train or Chicken Foot. The important thing is being together with family and friends.

Pickleball is a lot of fun and good exercise, plus a great way to meet new friends. It has turned into a very popular activity nationwide. Many of us traveled from one Thousand Trails campground to another in California and Arizona every two weeks and always had a group for pickleball. After doing this for almost 20 years, a lot of our friends have settled down but still continue to play and have fun. Pickleball tournaments now are very competitive, and all ages can participate, including seniors. We still remember the fun we had learning the game and encourage everybody to give it a try.

For entertainment in our small motorhome, we have the coach travel library, a single deck of cards, and Qwirkle. Qwirkle does not take up storage space like board games. It is played with tiles on any flat surface and even does well in a moving coach. It is handy but not essential to have a piece of paper and a writing stick to keep score, but we find that if only two are playing, that is not needed.
Scoring is simple; it is based on the number of tiles you lay down in a row during any turn. So, if you branch off a row, you count tiles in the row you just made. If you add to a row and branch at the same time, you get the count of the row you added to, plus the new row. If you finish a row that is all one color or all one shape, you receive a bonus.
The soft package means it stores anywhere, and the set comes with complete instructions.
