November 1, 2017

November 2017

The following RV recall notices are from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). To search for recalls, investigations, and complaints by vehicle year, make, and model, visit www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues. NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline is (888) 327-4236.

Erwin Hymer Group North America Inc.

Recall 17V-537 involves certain model-year 2016-2018 Hymer Aktiv motorhomes built from July 25, 2016, to July 20, 2017, on Ram ProMaster chassis and equipped with a continental kit (a trailer-hitch-mounted bracket for the spare tire). The exhaust pipe may melt the rear bumper cover and the vehicle wiring in that area. Erwin Hymer has notified owners. Dealers will install a new tailpipe that redirects the exhaust. The recall began September 1, 2017. Contact Erwin Hymer at (844) 413-8245.

Forest River Inc.

Recall 17V-500 involves certain model-year 2016-2017 Berkshire motorhomes built on Freightliner XCR chassis manufactured by Daimler Trucks. This recall was previously reported in the October 2017 issue of Family Motor Coaching as Daimler Trucks North America recall 17V-451. Contact Daimler Trucks at (800) 547-0712.

Recall 17V-513 involves certain model-year 2018 Forest River Dynamax, Forester, Sunseeker, and Coachmen Prism motorhomes built on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. This recall was previously reported in the August 2017 issue of Family Motor Coaching as Daimler Vans USA recall 17V-364. Contact Daimler Vans at (877) 762-8267.

Newmar Corporation

Recall 17V-497 involves certain model-year 2014 Mountain Aire and 2014-2017 Dutch Star motorhomes built on Freightliner XCR chassis manufactured by Daimler Trucks. This recall was previously reported in the October 2017 issue of Family Motor Coaching as Daimler Trucks North America recall 17V-451. Contact Daimler Trucks at (800) 547-0712 or Newmar at (800) 731-8300.

Thor Motor Coach

Recall 17V-522 involves certain model-year 2018 Four Winds, Chateau, and Freedom Elite motorhomes built from March 4 to July 27, 2017. The propane hose may sag and become pinched between the frame and the leaf spring U-bolts, potentially causing a propane leak. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the propane hose routing and relocate clamps or install additional ones to secure the hose. The recall was expected to begin October 23, 2017. Contact TMC at (877) 500-1020.

Recall 17V-544 involves certain model-year 2010-2011 Hurricane and 2011 Serrano and Windsport motorhomes built from September 14, 2009, to June 9, 2010. The vehicles are wired to be powered by a generator and are equipped with an Iota ITS-50R transfer switch that may fail when exposed to elevated electrical loads and used in higher temperatures. The affected units were not included in recall 15V-698, the 2015 Iota transfer switch recall. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transfer switch. The recall began September 7, 2017. Contact TMC at (877) 500-1020.

Triple E Recreational Vehicles

Recall 17V-405 involves certain model-year 2017 Wonder motorhomes, model W24MB, manufactured from September 26, 2016, to September 19, 2017. The Truma water heater door, when open and suspended by the supplied straps, can block the furnace air intake and exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire. Triple E sent owners an interim notification on September 13, 2017. Owners and dealers will receive a decal and instructions for placing it on the water heater door. The decal, which was not available at press time, instructs that the furnace should be turned off before opening the water heater door. Contact Triple E at (877) 992-9906.
