Many casinos allow RVers to park overnight. What are some of the best casinos with RV accommodations?

We needed a place to stay overnight on a trip to San Diego, California, and Morongo Casino Resort & Spa (www.morongocasinoresort.com) was a good location, right off Interstate 10 in Cabazon, California. The large parking lot right behind the hotel and casino, where RVs are welcome to stay, is lit and patrolled. We parked on the outside of the lot near open land, where we could walk the dog. We had a great dinner at the casino; there were many good dining choices. A large outlet mall is close by. We will definitely stop again if we are in the area.

We are fortunate to live near the Mississippi Gulf Coast and often camp at Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi (www.hollywoodgulfcoast.com). The campground has full hookups with nice, level concrete pads, and a large pavilion with complimentary ice. There are beautiful trees on the grounds and a first-class Arnold Palmer golf course. If you want to eat out, Hollywood Casino has a wonderful buffet, plus a very nice restaurant inside the casino.

Ojibwa Casino RV Park, outside of Marquette, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula (www.ojibwacasino.com), has seven large, private, back-in sites with electric hookups, available on a first-come basis. Upon arrival, we backed into an empty site and went inside to register with guest services. We each received $5 and a drink coupon. Later we played blackjack; I broke even, and my wife walked out with $165. Some people say it is a lucky casino. We have no reason to believe otherwise.

We recently stayed at three casinos that had free RV accommodations, including electricity. The best was Potawatomi Carter Casino in Wabeno, Wisconsin (www.cartercasino.com). Its paved sites had grass, water, and picnic tables, and a dump station was available. You could stay three days. Ho-Chunk Gaming in Nekoosa, Wisconsin (www.ho-chunkgaming.com/nekoosa), offered a free three-day-maximum stay. Kewadin Casino in Manistique, Michigan (www.kewadin.com/manistique), had RV parking on grass, and no stay limit.

We stay at Hollywood Casino RV Park in Joliet, Illinois (www.hollywoodcasinojoliet.com), near the intersection of interstates 80 and 55, about an hour from downtown Chicago. They have great sites, many of them pull-throughs, with water and electric. Rates are reasonable. A dump station is on-site. RV park guests enjoy complimentary breakfast at the hotel. A shuttle runs to the casino, and there is a great sports bar there.

We have camped overnight for years at Odawa Casino in beautiful Petoskey, Michigan (www.odawacasino.com). It’s quiet and you can ride a free shuttle anytime, day or night, to the casino. There are lots of things to do other than gambling. You can enjoy a great buffet or a light meal. It also has a wonderful gift shop and is close to Walmart for last-minute camping supplies. The view of Lake Michigan is spectacular as you drive into Petoskey.

The best casino for RV folk is Circus Circus in Las Vegas (www.circuscircus.com/en/hotel/rv-park.html). It includes pet runs, an off-leash dog park, and a free dog wash. We haven’t been traveling a lot west lately because of health issues. But we are nearly back on track again. Every day is a Holliday!

Future questions:

1) Do you prepare a favorite dish or snack when RVing in cold-weather months?

2) Have you or a traveling companion ever forgotten something important when leaving on an RV trip? Explain.
