Chapter Spotlight: Mohawk Roamers

Chapter Spotlight: Mohawk Roamers
Mohawk Roamers gathered this past October for a 40th anniversary rally in Delhi, New York.
Farm visits and tours add to the fun at this New York chapter’s rallies.

If we know of a farm that offers tours near a Mohawk Roamers rally, we likely will visit it. We enjoy fun activities, and it just so happens that our area has plenty of farms!

Even our chapter’s big 40th-anniversary rally in Delhi, New York, this past October involved checking out local agricultural sights, such as the maple syrup operation run by one of our chapter members, Richard Scranton. (See related story on page 78.) We also went to Byebrook Farms in Bloomville, New York, which sells milk, cheese, and eggs, and a farm-related place, Don’s Dairy Supply in South Kortright. Among the items it sells are trailer-sized, portable goat milking parlors that are in demand all over the world.

Over the years, we have explored a prefab housing company, cheese factories, and even a dairy barn where the owners had installed computerized milking machines.

Our chapter started with 24 families in October 1977. Eleven more RV families joined in the spring of 1978. Today we have 35 member families and still hold rallies in central New York and the Mohawk Valley.

We meet every third weekend of the month from May through October, at spots mostly in our New York area. We volunteer at the Northeast Area rally each summer as well. Our schedule concludes in December with a dinner. But each winter, several members continue to see each other as they head to the Bushnell, Florida, area. We enjoy each other’s company.

Rallies

We will start our 2018 rally season this coming May by gathering at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds with the Susquenango chapter. Our chapters sometimes hold combined rallies. We join them and members of other area FMCA chapters at the famous Oswego Harborfest, held every other year in Oswego, New York. Harborfest will happen again in July 2018, so mark your calendars.

Our rally schedule sometimes takes us to Bainbridge, New York, in the fall, and to The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone Resort Casino, near Verona. So, not everything we do involves farms. We enjoy town-wide garage sales, have great potlucks, and occasionally go out for a nice dinner. There are also board games and card games, happy hours, and campfires at times.

We are like a family and would love for you to join us. We do fun things that are of interest to RVers of all ages.
