Recall Corner: January 2018

February 1, 2018

The following companies have recalls delineated in this month’s Recall Corner: Forest River Inc., Kidde, Prevost Cars Inc., Thor Motor Coach, Triple E Recreational Vehicles.

The following recall notices are from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). To search for recalls, investigations, and complaints by vehicle year, make, and model, visit www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues. NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline is (888) 327-4236.

Forest River Inc.

Recall 17V-623 involves certain model-year 2014-2017 Berkshire XL and XLT motorhomes manufactured from October 29, 2013, to March 2, 2017. The headlights may shut off while switching from low beam to high beam, reducing visibility for the operator and other vehicles. Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a supplemental wiring harness. The recall was expected to begin December 6, 2017. Contact Forest River at (574) 295-2117.

Kidde

Kidde has recalled 134 models of plastic-handle fire extinguishers and plastic push-button fire extinguishers manufactured from January 1, 1973, to August 15, 2017. Many motorhomes are equipped with such fire extinguishers. The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire. Also, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard. For more information, visit www.kidde.com or contact Kidde at (855) 271-0773.

Prevost Cars Inc.

Recall 17V-618 involves certain model-year 2008-2018 vehicles, some of which are motorhomes. The affected models — H3-41; H3-45; H3-45 VIP; X3-45; X3-45 VIP; X3-45 VIP Entertainer; and XL2 — were manufactured from October 6, 2008, to September 30, 2017. At the two locations where the front of the fuel tank cradle is attached to the frame, a gap exists between the structural lugs and the cradle support tubing. Over time, this gap can cause the bolt torque to loosen, which could compromise the integrity of the bolt. If both bolts fail, the fuel cradle and fuel tank can drop to the ground. The recall was expected to begin December 2, 2017. Contact Prevost at (866) 870-2046.

Thor Motor Coach

Recall 17V-634 involves certain model-year 2017-2018 Challenger, Axis, Chateau, Four Winds, Hurricane, Miramar, Palazzo, Tuscany, Vegas, Venetian, and Windsport motorhomes manufactured from July 22, 2016, to August 16, 2017. The cargo carrying capacity (CCC) label may indicate an incorrect water capacity for the water heater/fresh-water tank. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) will notify owners and send them corrected labels. The recall was expected to begin December 3, 2017. Contact TMC at (877) 500-1020.

Triple E Recreational Vehicles

Recall 17V-644 involves certain model-year 2016-2018 Wonder motorhomes, model W24MB, manufactured from December 29, 2015, to September 29, 2017. The refrigerator power supply is not correctly fused. Without proper protection, the power supply line may overheat during an electrical overload, increasing the risk of a fire. Triple E will notify owners, and dealers will correctly connect the refrigerator wire to the 20-amp fuse block. The recall began November 1, 2017. Contact Triple E at (877) 992-9906.
