Shower Leak

My wife and I own a 2006 Damon Challenger motorhome. Since purchasing it new, we have had a leak coming from the shower. The dealers say they would have to remove the shower, but once they do that, they’re not sure how to find a leak if there is no water being supplied to it.

About a quart of water leaks with each shower. I have caulked several times all around the edges and the faucets — anywhere water could go. The leak comes from the back and runs into the hallway just behind the sink. Luckily, water runs onto a plastic sheet under the shower so there is no floor damage yet. I drilled a hole under the sink and used a flexible camera to look around as much as I could, but I could not find the leak. We have the newer-style water lines with ring clamps; I can get my hand on them and they do not seem to be leaking. I did notice the faucets originally were installed upside down, but I fixed that. I’m not sure what else to do.

From your description, I surmise that the leak occurs only when the shower is on, but it does not happen while the shower knobs are turned off. If this is correct, that tells me the leak is between the knobs and the showerhead. That’s why the shower must be removed to be sealed. Again, from your description, I’d say that’s the only way to repair it.

Valve Check

I bought a 2002 Alfa motorhome. I’m trying to fill the fresh-water tank. The previous owner apparently left the valve open and I don’t know where to close it. Can you help?

Valve locations vary for different motorhome models, and I do not know where that one is. If you can’t reach the previous owner, perhaps contact FMCA’s chapter for Alfa owners, the AlfaSeeYas; visit www.alfaseeyas.com. Another option: Add water to the tank and allow it to drain out; the shutoff valve should be directly above the draining water.
