Family Matters: How FMCA Gained Two New Members

October 1, 2018

Nature photographer Dawn Wilson and her friend didn’t need much prompting to join.

During a conversation with FMCA national president Jon Walker, I shared that I currently was at a weeklong Beaver Ambassador Club rally in Estes Park, Colorado. Jon mentioned an article in the August 2018 issue of Family RVing, “One Woman’s Cross-Country RV Adventure,” about the exploits of nature and wildlife photographer Dawn Wilson. Noting that Dawn lives nearby, Jon suggested that I try to make contact with her.

I called Dawn and set up a time to meet with her at an Estes Park shop called Coffee on the Rocks. That’s where my wife, Claire, and I were waiting when a bright and cheery woman walked up to me, and said, “Rett?” I jumped up and shook her hand while introducing her to Claire. We talked awhile, telling her that we really enjoyed the article about her RVing adventures. We said that we wanted her to become FMCA’s newest member.

Dawn responded: “Richard is so excited about this, because he had learned about FMCA’s Roadside Rescue [roadside assistance plan] and he wants to sign up.” As the article noted, Dawn met Richard during her travels; they fell in love and now share ownership of a motorhome. Dawn texted him to see whether he could join us. He came right over.

We spent about an hour together, having a great time talking about RVing joys and breakdowns. We told them about many of the benefits that members of FMCA enjoy. I also learned that Richard is from Louisiana, just as I am.

After Dawn filled out the FMCA enrollment form, I asked if we could take a photo of them as our newest members. Claire became the amateur photographer, asking Dawn — the professional photographer — where we should stand to get the best photo. Dawn picked a spot outside.

Look for Dawn and Richard, F486763, as they start their next adventures on the road. Visit Dawn’s website at www.dawnwilsonphotography.com and check the galleries that feature her stunning photography. The website also includes a Photo of the Month section where you can see her favorite images and read her stories. You may end up booking a photo workshop with Dawn!
