Meet The Family: April 2019

April 1, 2019
Meet The Family: April 2019
FMCA members DeWayne and Vickie Reed.

DeWayne and Vickie Reed, F490953

Occupations: DeWayne is retired from the U.S. Navy and now works for the U.S. Army in a civilian role. Vickie, a former government contractor, is the couple’s official trip planner.

Home: Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

RV: 2015 Tiffin Phaeton motorhome.

RVing since: 2004.

Best camping memory:
DeWayne: Vickie’s idea of camping was snakes and bugs and sleeping on the ground, so she was totally against even trying it. I finally just went out on my own, rented a small popup, and told her we were going camping for our 22nd anniversary. We went to a state park in Virginia with some friends. Being late October, it got pretty cold and we found the heater didn’t work, the toilet didn’t flush, etc. I thought the trip was a total bust, but as soon as we got home, Vic announced what a great time she had and suggested we buy our own camper. Two weeks later, we were the proud owners of our first rig, a 28-foot travel trailer.

Number of RVs we’ve owned: We’re on our fourth.

Favorite camping destination: Fort Pickens area at Gulf Islands National Seashore, Pensacola Beach, Florida. It’s miles of beautiful, unspoiled beaches, quiet and peaceful, not very touristy.

Among friends and family, DeWayne is famous for:
Vickie: Being an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. DeWayne bleeds blue. He can tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the team. Life generally comes to a stop when UK is playing, and we have to schedule our plans around their games. His wardrobe is largely blue UK clothing.
