Family Matters: A Cajun Valentine’s Celebration

Everyone has a comfort zone, even groups such as the South Texas Renegades chapter. In fact, our chapter has two — one within a 250-mile radius of Houston and the other within a 250-mile radius of San Antonio. But occasionally we venture out of them, usually by traveling to Durant, Oklahoma, for a rally.

South Texas Renegades members found interesting places to explore in southern Louisiana during the chapter’s February rally.

South Texas Renegades members found interesting places to explore in southern Louisiana during the chapter’s February rally.

This year, however, we decided to head east for a February rally at Cajun Palms RV Resort in Henderson, Louisiana. You might think the rally would have had a Mardi Gras theme, but because those festivities fell in March, we decided to celebrate the day of love — Valentine’s — sprinkled with some Cajun spice.

Ladies were presented with a long-stem rose, and the gentlemen received a bag of assorted candies, which they could share with their wives. Hearts and roses decorated the tables. Photo booth props were available for anyone who wanted to commemorate the day. People enjoyed games, good Cajun food, and fellowship.

Southern Louisiana has lots of history and interesting places. Some of our members spent Saturday afternoon listening to live zydeco music in the quaint village of Breaux Bridge. During free time, some members toured a swamp, while others ventured farther south to Avery Island where they could learn all they wanted to know about Tabasco brand pepper sauce, which is made there.

When you’re in the area of one of our rallies, drop in for a visit. For more information, including our 2019 rally schedule, visit www.southtexasrenegades.com.
