Formerly for Safari Trek owners only, this new chapter is open to all FMCA members.

FMCA’s newest chapter is a longstanding group affiliated with an even longer-lived motorhome brand. Southeast Trek Fun Club was formed many years ago as part of Safari International (SI). SI is the Safari brand’s official owners group, and an FMCA chapter. SE Trek Fun Club members always needed to belong to FMCA to join; so, becoming an official FMCA chapter this year was a pretty smooth transition for them.
The Safari Trek was and still is a memorable vehicle. When it was introduced in 1991, its smaller length, a maximum of 28 feet, distinguished it from other Type A motorhomes. Huge windows wrapping around the front and sides gave it a touring car look, and because the bed inside was raised and stored on the ceiling when not in use, every inch of floor space was available for living. The original Isuzu engine got 13 to 14 miles per gallon.
Another big feature, one that Trek shared with other Safari models, was its rear mural. It was and still is a real conversation starter to have a custom design painted on the back of your coach.
Used Treks still sell well, according to Carolyn McHale, president of the South East Trek Fun Club. But new ones are no longer made. And Carolyn said that the club has changed the requirements to join: “Membership is now open to all RVers in good standing with FMCA.” And you don’t have to live in the southeastern part of the United States in order to join in the fun.
So, how can you check out this chapter? Their next official rally is January 10-13, 2020, at Lazydays in Seffner, Florida. Before then, they will join SI’s summer rally, July 14-18 in Mackinaw City, Michigan; and FMCA’s 100th International Convention & RV Expo, August 14-17 in Minot, North Dakota. They also participate in SI’s big annual rally, typically held around early September. To see this chapter in action, check their most recent rally on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLAmxKGWvUc
What else is the South East Trek Fun Club known for? Helping other Trek owners with mechanical questions. “Trek Tracks (www.trektraxs.com) hosts a forum for Trek owners, who help each other troubleshoot problems,” Carolyn said. “This has been a wonderful resource for the owners, and many use this website.”
Plus, whether you own a Trek or not, “We have a lot of fun. And it’s all about friendship,” she added.
