“Family Matters” Correction

The August 2019 “Meet The Family” feature in the “Family Matters” column introduced readers to Alan and Paula Grissom, F484042 (page 72). However, instead of the Grissoms’ photo, an image of Harry and Renee Wright, F477678, inadvertently was included. The Wrights are scheduled to be profiled in the October 2019 issue.

The Grissoms’ corrected “Meet The Family” profile has been placed online in the August 2019 digital edition. It also appears correctly in this issue on page 80.
Family RVing regrets this error.

Being a new FMCA member, I enjoy the magazine very much, and I have already benefited from FMCA University articles available online at FMCA.com. I ran into battery problems with my fifth-wheel, and the information I got was right on. Since then I’ve been reading about all kinds of topics through FMCA University. Joining FMCA was the best money I’ve spent in a long time. I look forward to a long and happy relationship with FMCA and the wonderful people who work there.

Motorhome Handling And Steering Issues

I enjoyed reading the article “Motorhome Handling” (July 2019, page 32). We are new to the RV arena and last year purchased a 2012 Monaco Knight PDQ for my 70th birthday. The dealership convinced us that all coaches sway and it was normal to move the steering wheel back and forth. We decided to purchase six new tires, even though the dealership insisted they were in excellent condition. We had the coach weighed to ensure proper tire pressure and alignment. Unfortunately, this still did not correct the wandering issue. We then purchased and had professionally installed a Steer Safe unit to tighten up the steering. This still did not correct the issue.

After spending several weeks up north around Flagstaff, Arizona, we brought the coach back down from the mountains. The road is difficult enough to manage with good steering, and it was quite an experience with our issues being unresolved.

We brought the unit back to the tire center and asked them to check the shocks and the stabilizer. It was then they discovered that the Pitman arm was within one turn of falling off. Had this happened coming down from the mountains, we would not be writing this note.

Please make your readers aware of this critical connection, and make sure it is checked along with all the other recommendations that were made in that article.

We later had all shocks changed to Koni, and now the coach drives like a dream. I can’t tell you how upset I was that the dealership gave me such a line, telling us that all coaches drive like that. Lesson learned the hard way.

Fast Fuel Pump Fix

Our motorhome broke down while we were driving along State Route 10 in Florida. We were towed to Auto Clinic of Marianna, where the owner, “Daddy Doc” Michael Kriser, and staff, found a bad fuel pump.

We spent that evening in the RV, and the next morning, work began. We were on the road again early that afternoon.

We highly recommend Auto Clinic of Marianna, 4145 Lafayette St., Marianna, FL 32446; (850) 482-6632; https://autoclinicofmarianna.com.

Fair And Honest RV Repair

On Memorial Day 2019 we were in Las Vegas, Nevada, at Circus Circus Campground and getting ready to leave for home. When we went to bring in the drivers-side slideout, nothing happened. After checking it out, we found it had a broken roller on the front corner.

Since it was a holiday, we never thought we would find an RV repair service that would come in a mobile unit to get us on the road. But we did use Google and found General Quality RV Repair (702-859-0505; www.generalqualityrvrepair.com). Technician Lannie Lawson said that he would be there in two hours. After he got the slide back in so we could return to Florida, we were amazed that his invoice was very fair, and he did not overcharge because it was a holiday.

Grateful To Many In Nashville, Tennessee

On a recent trip to Nashville to see our grandson compete in the state trap shooting tournament, the unthinkable happened. While we were driving on Interstate 65, our RV completely shut down. Everything. Not only was it frightening, but we found ourselves in a dangerous situation. Cars and 18-wheelers were flying by, with only inches between them and our mirrors. Our right side was jammed against the guardrail. We contacted our roadside assistance provider, and they got the ball rolling.

A Tennessee Department of Transportation representative arrived on the scene to protect us from the traffic. Nashville police came and stopped traffic so that we could be moved out of harm’s way. After about five hours, the RV was towed to a local automotive service.

We are grateful to all the first responders who protected us, and we are especially thankful for the service provided by Link Automotive Services. The problem was the electronic control module harness; it had become loose and eventually disengaged. The team at Link Automotive diagnosed it quickly and ordered the parts. We were on our way within 24 hours.

Chris Figlio, service manager, and the technicians at Link Automotive certainly know the meaning of exemplary customer service! If anyone should ever need help in Nashville, we highly recommend the team at Link Automotive Services, 1229 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210; (615) 256-3060; www.linkautomotiveservice.net.
