Chapter members visited a variety of interesting places.
May 2020
WesTex chapter members enjoyed a full slate of activities during a rally held January 12 to 17, 2020, at the Knights of Columbus RV Park in Hallettsville, Texas.
The rally highlight was visiting five painted churches in Lavaca County, including locations in Shiner and Schulenburg. The churches’ interiors are decorated with brilliant pigments and elaborate faux finishes. They are the work of Czech and German immigrants who began arriving in the area in the mid-19th century.
In Shiner, chapter members visited the Spoetzl Brewery, where Shiner beer is made. In Hallettsville, they stopped by Sacred Heart Catholic Church and observed members of the Sacred Heart Quilting Circle in action. Also in Hallettsville, chapter members donated canned goods and dry goods to the Manna Food Pantry.
Other activities included golfing at local courses; visiting small communities around Schulenburg; and receiving training on the proper use of the chapter’s automated external defibrillator (AED). Members also shared a variety of tips related to RVing.
The WesTex chapter draws members from throughout the Lone Star State. Rallies are held every two months, usually at a location in Texas, but sometimes in other states. For more information, including an events calendar, visit www.westexrv.com.
