FMCA Update: Time Keeps On Flying

Talk of anniversaries and hidden FMCA gems.

September 2020

It’s remarkable how quickly time seems to pass. As I write this, it’s late July, and it’s hard to believe staff is wrapping up the September issue of the magazine already and looking toward fall.

On August 21, 2020, I will celebrate my seventh work anniversary with FMCA. I am also coming up on four years as CEO of FMCA. As with many things in life, I have witnessed highs and lows during my time in this position. We have been successful in growing our membership numbers after years of consistent losses. Many great benefits that have enhanced the value of FMCA membership have been introduced. Events have recorded their largest attendance figures in many years. This very magazine received a face-lift not long ago to modernize the look to match the top-notch content in this beloved member benefit.

Currently, like most of the world, FMCA is at a crossroads. As you know, both international conventions were cancelled for 2020. After years of membership growth, things have slowed down, for many reasons. FMCA will come out of this situation just fine, but it might require Issociation to look a bit different moving forward. Many companies are being forced to adjust to this new reality, but you have my word that our world-class service to members will remain. All that being said, there is not Ir organization I would want to work for. I have enjoyed all seven years and look forward to many more.

FMCA campground Cincinnati

FMCA operates a member-only campground in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I want to first talk about one of the little-known benefits of FMCA membership. Did you know FMCA has its own RV campground? Yep, that’s right, located east of downtown Cincinnati and a hidden gem of sorts. The campground is in the village of Newtown, a quiet little suburb of Cincinnati, and offers 15 full-hookup sites with level concrete pads and nine electric-only spots on asphalt. FMCA members can stay free for two nights every month and for an additional five nights per month thereafter at a rate of $30 per night for a full-hookup site and $20 per night for an electric-only site. Please note: $30 for a full-hookup site is a slight increase from the previous price of $20 and takes effect October 1, 2020. This increase was discussed and approved by the Executive Board during the budget approval process for fiscal year 2021.

One other important note: Some members still may not be aware that sites in the campground no longer are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We have moved to a reservation system to ensure members that they have a site when they arrive in Cincinnati. To view available sites and book your stay, simply visit www.fmca.com/stay-fmca or call our Membership Department at (800) 543-3622. Some members use the campground as a stopping point. Others stay there while visiting friends and relatives who live nearby. Still others choose Cincinnati as a destination and come to explore all the wonderful things the area has to offer. Just one more great perk of being an FMCA member!

Switching gears, I also want to discuss FMCA RV Insurance. As many of you know, buying RV insurance is a very complex and important decision. It differs significantly from buying automobile insurance. FMCA has, in our opinion, assembled the best coalition of RV insurance specialists in the industry. Below is a brief explanation of what is offered and a list of some of our most frequently asked questions.
