East to West RV, a division of Forest River Inc., is relatively new to the RV scene but has expanded to include multiple lines of towable RVs. The Della Terra, which means “of the earth” in Italian, is the division’s introductory travel trailer model and is available in nine floor plans. This review will focus on the 323QB, a popular 37-foot bunkhouse floor plan.
The Della Terra is built on a next-generation automotive-style deposition-coated frame from Norco Industries that incorporates high-strength, low-alloy steel. The result is a strong yet lightweight frame. The 2-by-3 floor joists are topped with 5/8-inch tongue-and-groove plywood. The underbelly is heated and enclosed.
The roof and the 2-inch aluminum-skinned sidewalls are insulated to an R-7 value. The sidewalls are said to be 25 percent thicker than many other travel trailers. The walkable roof utilizes 3/8-inch decking over 5-inch double trusses on 16-inch centers. The roof is covered with Superflex TPO material that is resistant to mold, ultraviolet rays, and chalking. A 13-ply microlaminated header is used over slideout openings to prevent any sag. One-piece vinyl flooring eliminates gaps and paths for spilled water to reach the plywood decking.
The exterior of the Della Terra boasts many desirable features. It comes prepped for a backup camera. All exterior lighting uses LED technology. The 15-foot power patio awning also is equipped with LED lighting, and marine-grade exterior speakers provide sound for outdoor entertainment.
A handy spray outlet is located next to the entry door to make it easy to wash off dirty footwear or muddy pet paws before entering the RV.
The power tongue jack features an LED light to facilitate evening campsite setup or teardown. A 30-amp power cord plugs into a twist-lock receptacle on the side of the RV. The fresh-water and cable TV connections reside in a handy universal docking station. This street-side station is housed in the fully finished pass-through storage area, which also contains a battery disconnect switch and an outside shower with hot and cold water. An external port on the sidewall allows the owner to connect portable solar panels for battery charging power when dry camping.
The unit I reviewed was equipped with an optional outside kitchen in the patio area near the rear of the RV. It contains a propane-mounted grill on a slide tray as well as a small refrigerator. A quick-disconnect fitting is provided to supply on-board propane to any portable propane grill or propane-fueled campfire accessories.
The fully enclosed underbelly is heated by ducted air from the same 35,000-Btu propane furnace that warms the RV interior. The 30-gallon black-water, 60-gallon gray-water, and 55-gallon fresh-water tanks are located in this underbelly to help insulate them. A black-tank flush system comes standard.
A 15,000-Btu ducted rooftop air conditioner cools the interior, and a second 13,500-Btu unit is available as an option. If the second air conditioner is chosen, it comes with an upgrade to 50-amp electric service. Plenty of windows, including a pair in the sidewalls of the living-area slideout, provide natural lighting, as well as airflow for days when air conditioning isn’t required. All windows feature tinted safety glass.
The modern farmhouse interior décor incorporates an attractive blend of dark and light tones that give the living space a bright and cheery appearance. The front of the RV holds the master bedroom, which is fitted with a 72-inch-by-80-inch king-size bed that comes with gas struts to provide access to under-bed storage. Wardrobe cabinets flank the bed, and overhead cabinets provide additional storage. USB ports are available on both sides of the bed. Prep for an optional bedroom TV is provided. A solid door separates the bedroom from the rest of the RV.
The curbside galley incorporates a three-burner range with a flip-up glass cover; an oven; and a deep, flush-mount stainless-steel farm sink with a high-rise faucet that has a removable sprayer. A Magic Chef 10.7-cubic-foot double-door refrigerator provides 40 percent more usable space than the 6-cubic-foot refrigerators often found in entry-level travel trailers. The standard residential refrigerator in the Della Terra is equipped with a 12-volt-DC compressor and uses R134a refrigerant. It draws 6 amps at full cooling and has a faster cool-down time than a traditional gas-electric refrigerator.
Opposite the fridge is the main slideout, which holds a jack-knife sofa bed. Or buyers can opt to replace the sofa with theater seating. An oversized booth dinette — measuring 48 inches by 74 inches — is adjacent to the sofa. A 24-inch full-extension drawer beneath each dinette seat exposes additional storage space. Shaker-style cabinets with mortise-and-tenon construction adorn the interior. A large pantry at the rear of the main living area provides plenty of storage space for dry goods.
The bathroom contains a combination bathtub and shower unit with a full ABS tub surround, along with a foot-flush toilet, a vanity with a sink basin, and a medicine cabinet. A ceiling-mounted exhaust fan vents odors and moisture out of the bath area.
The spacious rear bunkhouse has opposing slideouts and holds a pair of oversized bunk beds. It can sleep up to four people. USB ports and power outlets are provided at each bunk. On the curb side, the bunk folds out to provide a comfortable place to view the entertainment center at the rear of the RV. The entertainment center comes prepped for a TV and incorporates plenty of cabinets to hold all the game controllers and software needed to keep young gamers busy. Two large wardrobes with plenty of room for clothing flank the entertainment center.
The Della Terra offers a nice twist on travel trailers. The popular 323QB bunkhouse floor plan provides sleeping accommodations for up to eight people. It also comes with a number of upgraded features, making the Della Terra a good value-added option for anyone looking for a family-friendly RV.
