FMCA member Hal Stewart can say that camping runs in the family. His great-grandparents Dora and Ed Stewart — shown here in their 1880 wedding photo — did some car camping back in the early 20th century.
Hal Stewart, F349893, can say that an interest in travel and camping run in the family. Recently, he shared this photo of his great-grandparents Dora and Ed Stewart and his great-uncle Walter Stewart (above); he estimated that it was taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s. They likely were camped somewhere near the Green River in Washington state, an area they often went to back then.
Dora and Ed were married in 1880 and lived in Seattle, Washington, and on Whidbey Island, approximately 30 miles to the north.
The photo gives new meaning to the term “primitive camping.”
“Life was a lot harder then than our bath-and-a-half diesel pusher with three A/Cs,” Hal quipped.
