The Alta, produced by East to West RV, a division of Forest River, debuted in 2019 as a lightweight, durable, easy-to-maintain unit that features laminated construction. For 2022, it is available in nine floor plans ranging from 25 feet to 37 feet 8 inches in length. This review spotlights the 2810 KIK, a unit with dual flat-floor slideouts. It boasts a front bedroom with a king-size bed. Other noteworthy features include a galley island and an outside kitchen.
Construction And Exterior
The Alta is built on a next-generation powder-coated frame from LCI that incorporates high-strength, low-alloy steel, resulting in a sturdy but lightweight chassis. The 1-inch-by-3-inch aluminum floor joists are placed on 16-inch centers and topped with 5/8-inch tongue-and-groove plywood that is secured with both glue and screws. Thermofoil insulation is added to produce an R-15 insulation value. The double-insulated underbelly is heated and enclosed.
Sidewall and roof framing are completed using lightweight aluminum structural tubing. The unit’s 2-inch-thick sidewalls include high-density block foam and are vacubond-laminated with Azdel composite panels, which prevent water retention and delamination and have an R-9 insulation value.
The one-piece roof sports a Dicor II thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membrane, which is resistant to mold and chalking; it is vacuum-bond laminated to high-density foam and yields an R-15 insulation value. The sturdy roof is walkable and carries a 12-year warranty.
The exterior of this RV includes a number of desirable features. It sports an attractive seamless fiberglass cap on the front that is fitted with diamond-plate chip shielding. A power tongue jack with an LED light eases the task of hooking up to the towing vehicle, and individually controlled power leveling jacks speed up the process of setting up camp. Aluminum triple entry steps add stability for entering and exiting the RV. (A solid entry step that contains a toolbox is optional.) A rear ladder provides access to the roof or makes a handy place to hang your stepladder or flagpole. Furrion backup camera prep is standard, and all exterior lighting is LED.
The unit’s 21-foot power patio awning is illuminated; a pair of weatherproof stereo speakers are mounted beneath the awning. A coax TV connection gives easy access to the entertainment center for outside patio enjoyment.
The patio area includes an outside kitchen with a pull-out propane grill and a 1.6-cubic-foot refrigerator. An additional propane quick-connect fitting is available at the rear of the unit for use with other cooking appliances, campfires, or heaters. An outside shower is also located on this side to wash off dirty feet, clothing, or pets before entering the RV.
Utility needs for the 2810 KIK are met by 50-amp electrical service, which is more than enough to power the 14,500-Btu air conditioner and other electrical systems. The air conditioner is quietly ducted throughout the ceiling but also has a quick-dump vent for faster initial cooling. This floor plan includes prep for a second 14,500-Btu A/C unit.
The fresh-water and cable TV connections are located in a handy universal docking station inside the insulated pass-through storage area. This station also contains a battery-disconnect switch, a 120-volt receptacle, a fresh-water pressure fill, a city water connection, satellite/cable hookups, a 30-amp solar controller, and a motion light. In addition, it houses an outside shower with hot and cold water and a quick-connect hose that can be used at the opposite end of the RV. The Alta also comes equipped with a standard 50-amp roof-mounted solar panel, a 30-amp controller, and a series 27 battery. Or, with the optional 170-watt West Coast package, a second series 27 battery is provided. The unit also is prewired for satellite TV.
The Alta’s fully enclosed underbelly is heated by the 35,000-Btu propane furnace that warms the coach interior. This area also houses the 30-gallon black-water tank, 60-gallon gray-water tank, and 53-gallon fresh-water tank. A 6-gallon water heater supplies domestic hot water for the galley, bath, and exterior shower areas. A black-tank flush system is also standard. In addition, this unit has room for two 30-pound propane cylinders and a pair of deep-cycle batteries.
Plenty of windows, including a pair in the street-side slideout sidewalls, provide good natural lighting as well as airflow for days when air conditioning isn’t needed. All windows are flush-mounted and made with deep-tinted safety glass.
Interior
The 2810 KIK is a roomy floor plan that offers a number of nice features. Its 6-foot-9-inch ceiling height and oversized windows add to the openness. Window valances and lambrequins create a residential feel. One-piece upgraded Congoleum vinyl in a large plank pattern covers the floor. A Furrion two-zone sound system comes with Bluetooth and HDMI connectivity.
The bedroom, located in the nose of the trailer, features a 70-inch-by-80-inch king-size bed. Underneath it, a storage locker can be used to stow items. Wardrobes and drawers flank the bed; USB and 120-volt charging outlets are located on both sides as well. Overhead cabinets offer additional storage space. Another closet is located across from the foot of the bed; the wall space next to it is wired for a second TV.
The bath area contains a porcelain foot-flush toilet, a vanity/sink, a medicine cabinet, and a ceiling-mounted exhaust fan that directs odors and moisture out of the room. The ABS shower stall measures 30 inches deep by 36 inches wide and includes a skylight.
The main living area contains the 2810 KIK’s two slideouts. One houses the galley on the patio side of the unit. It includes a three-burner range with a flip-up glass top, a conventional oven, and a microwave oven nestled in the overhead cabinets. A spacious counter area provides plenty of workspace; it is flanked by an entertainment center with an electric fireplace and a 40-inch LED TV. The TV resides in the counter and rises for viewing via a power lift.
The rear wall holds a 10.7-cubic-foot stainless-steel residential refrigerator with a pull-out pet dish area beneath it. This high-efficiency fridge operates via 12-volt power that uses only 6 amps at full cooling. It also is said to provide faster cool-down times compared to propane units. A pantry is positioned between the refrigerator and a large desk area.
Nearby, a center island is topped by the same solid-surface counter found elsewhere in the unit. The island holds a stainless-steel sink with a cover and a high-rise faucet, plus additional storage.
Opposite the galley are the dining and seating areas, both housed in slideout number two. A booth-style dinette comes standard in the Alta; this particular unit contained the optional free-standing table and four chairs, with hinged cushions that flip up for quick access to storage beneath them. The bench seats on the standard dinette incorporate drawers to make use of available space.
This slideout also contains a standard trifold sofa or optional power theater seating (the test unit came with the latter), directly opposite the living area TV.
The Alta 2810 KIK offers a number of desirable features. With a king-size bed, a chef-ready galley and island, an outside kitchen, and plenty of room, I predict it will be a popular choice among RVers.
