Marcia Atkinson, L10327, wife of past FMCA national president Charlie Atkinson, passed away on November 29, 2022, at the age of 88. Charlie and Marcia met as freshmen at Ohio University and were married for 66 years. In the early years, as educators with modest incomes and four children, they saved money while on vacation by traveling in a station wagon pulling a camper. During a trip to Colorado, Marcia spotted a box-like vehicle, which was the first motorhome she had seen, and she suggested they get one. The Atkinsons purchased their first motorhome in 1972 and joined FMCA that same year.
In retirement, the couple devoted considerable time to FMCA. Charlie served the association as national president from 1998 to 2001. He also served as national senior vice president from 1993 to 1996 and as national vice president, Great Lakes Area, from 1988 to 1992. At one point, the Atkinsons were members of eight FMCA chapters. Charlie preceded Marcia in death on March 29, 2020.
Marcia is survived by her children, Anne, Keith, Jill, and Kay; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
