Our family loves touring the United States in our RV, and we enjoy discovering local adventures and finding out why they are treasures in the area.

West Virginia is called the Mountain State for a good reason — its tall, rocky landscape makes for great outdoor adventures, as the Coats family discovered.

West Virginia is called the Mountain State for a good reason — its tall, rocky landscape makes for great outdoor adventures, as the Coats family discovered.

For example, the Smoke Hole Caverns in Seneca Rocks, West Virginia, are a hidden gem, with a rich display of geology and mineral deposits, including stalactites and stalagmites that surely create a wonderous curiosity.

The nearby Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area was another “high point” during our visit there. With an elevation of 4,863 feet, Spruce Knob literally is the highest peak in West Virginia, and it offers some heart-pumping climbs and broad views of “almost Heaven!” Biking and hiking trails provide some great opportunities for adventure, but be sure to check for ticks — they are no joke!
