Family Matters: Don Moore Volunteered At All Levels
Don Moore

May-June 2025

Don Moore, L154921, who served as FMCA national president from 2005 to 2007, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the age of 93.

Don and his wife, Darlene, joined FMCA in the 1990s and belonged to numerous chapters as well. They enjoyed traveling the United States in their motorhome and wintering in Florida. They were married for 72 years.

Don was the first national president elected to a two-year term after the Governing Board approved amendments to the bylaws. During his tenure, a redesigned, more contemporary association magazine — then named Family Motor Coaching — debuted in May 2007. He also oversaw the addition of several new member benefits, including discounted motorhome insurance and an optional travel medical insurance program for members going abroad. In addition, the association’s August 2006 international convention at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, was the first to be held at a motorsports venue, and the first in the Tar Heel State.

Don also served as senior vice president and Midwest Area president. He was chairman of the Membership/Member Services Committee and the Convention Committee, and a member of the Education and Risk Management committees.

Don was born in Vandalia, Missouri. He served in the Naval Reserve for 8 years. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company for 38 years and, upon retirement, established his own business.

The Moores were active in their community. Don’s volunteer roles included American Legion officer, Boy Scout master, and 4-H Club leader. In Chatham, Illinois, he served as mayor and on the board of trustees.

In addition to Darlene, Don is survived by two sons, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son.
