RV Roundup: 9 Great RVs for Tailgating

Host a party on wheels with a motorized or towable model equipped with fan-friendly features to enjoy the game on-site.

By Bruce W. Smith
September-October 2025

One of the interesting cultural aspects of RVing in the U.S., and, to a certain extent, Canada, is tailgating. Football stadium parking lots and similar sports venues fill with sports fans gathered around travel trailers, motorhomes, and smaller vehicles. These vehicles serve as the hub of a full-on party atmosphere where food, drink, and camaraderie prevail as fans support their favorite team.

While cars, SUVs, and pickups can provide the basic elements for parking-lot tailgating parties, RVs really shine in this element. They offer ample space to mingle, stretch, and relax and also furnish luxuries such as entertainment centers to watch the game, a fully equipped kitchen, and one or more bathrooms so tailgaters don’t have to wait in line to use the community facilities.

The best RVs for tailgating also have the added luxury of a well-equipped exterior kitchen that often includes a built-in grill and fridge, plus a large flat-screen TV with a robust sound system to enhance the outdoor aspect of the tailgating experience.

Whether towed or motorized, great RVs for tailgating also provide abundant exterior storage for necessities such as barbecue grills, coolers, folding chairs, tents, and even portable picnic tables. If they have a built-in generator for dry camping, so much the better. A genset supplies power to the TVs so no pregame or postgame coverage is missed. Onboard generators also provide the juice for charging everyone’s cellphones, laptops, and tablets.

An RV’s air-conditioning and heating systems create a comfortable environment inside to allow participants to escape Mother Nature’s extremes when it’s hot and humid or cold and wet, while power awnings give a respite from sun when needed.

With all that in mind, we’ve highlighted some of the newest towable and motorized RVs we think will work really well as party central for any tailgating event — and, of course, make travel quite comfortable any time of the year.

Innovation attracts attention. So it is with the new Brookstone 318RLL fifth wheel, which features an industry-first covered patio deck outfitted with marine-grade equipment typically found on large pontoon boats. Located off the rear living room/kitchen, the patio incorporates an L-shaped sofa, ceiling-mounted stereo speakers and fan, a swivel drink table, TV jacks, and a fridge.

The 42-foot-3-inch, triple-slideout fiver with a 14,500-pound GVWR is a premium-level model featuring a king bedroom, upscale furnishings and appliances, two high-capacity A/Cs with heat pumps (a third is optional), and generous-size electrical and water systems.

“New ideas. New concepts. That’s what it takes to attract younger RVers and grow the industry,” noted Greg Lebold, Coachmen RV’s general manager, a millennial himself. Lebold said the idea of merging a pontoon-boat-style patio into the 318RLL came when his wife, Kendra Lebold, director of sales for Lippert Marine, was showing him some new furniture ideas. Greg said, “What better way to tailgate than sitting on a three-season covered patio that doesn’t require any setup, and the furnishings are marine-grade. You park, drop the auto-leveling jacks, open the sliding glass doors, step out onto the patio, and enjoy the party. No time wasted.”
