A Type A diesel pusher that offers an innovative option for working on the road.

These days, many RVers have jobs that allow them to work part-time or full-time while traveling. It can be a challenge to find a suitable space to spread out in the RV, and it’s seldom possible to keep a computer and other equipment set up between work sessions. Many people use the RV’s dinette table; some replace it with a workspace and thus lose a dedicated dining area, leaving the office in the middle of the living space.
Several RV manufacturers now include some type of workspace in their new floor plans. Options include dinettes with computer cabinets, bunk slideouts with built-in desks, dashboard desks, and custom-built desks that replace some other piece of furniture. The latter tends to be a costly option to have professionally done and strips the RV of some additional usable space.
The Fleetwood Frontier GTX diesel pusher provides a unique solution in its 37RT floor plan: the Corner Office. This option places a working office in the rear of the coach, aft of the bedroom, where it shares space with the closet. I inspected a 2023 GTX 37RT equipped with this office option and was impressed by its utility, as well as its great view to the outside.
A corner desk is situated on the passenger side of the coach and has a window above it, plus wall space for the included LED monitor; a solid-surface countertop; and ample cabinet storage. Room under the desk can be used for additional storage or to mount office electronics. The Corner Office includes ample power for all of your electronic needs. A standard dinette-style chair is included as well, but if you’re like this RVer, you’ll want to add your own adjustable, rolling office chair.
Having a rear office behind the bedroom means that you can work there undisturbed while your significant other enjoys the front of the coach. When you are done, the office stays as is, and you won’t have to put everything away to restore your living area. Best of all, the closet design is very efficient, meaning you’re not losing much, if any, clothes hanging space.
Of course, the Frontier GTX 37RT has much more going for it than just the optional office. Built on Fleetwood RV’s exclusive Freedom Sport Foundation, which is constructed on top of the Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation XCR chassis, the 37-foot-11-inch diesel pusher is full of amenities and comforts.
A LOOK INSIDE
The driver’s station features a well-designed and attractive dashboard with additional storage, cup holders, and Freightliner’s new DriveTech steering wheel. The coach also features Freightliner’s OptiView information center, allowing the user to customize the digital gauge cluster to their liking and obtain all relevant information about the chassis operation. Also present are a navigation system/stereo, a camera observation system, and a Mobileye collision avoidance system.
The interior is linear and attractive, thanks partly to the door-side super-slideout that extends from the passenger seat to the office. Two smaller slideouts are installed on the street side. For 2024, three cabinet finishes, three interior décor choices, and five exterior paint choices allow prospective owners to choose a palette that appeals to them.
Entering the 37RT from the front door leads you into the living and galley space. The slideout behind the driver features a sofa-sleeper with a queen-size mattress or theater seating; a free-standing or standard dinette occupies the slideout behind the passenger seat. A fireplace and a wall cabinet dressed with a craftsman-style glass door visually separate the living space from the galley.
The Frontier GTX galley features solid-surface counters with a stainless-steel farmhouse sink and a two-burner induction cooktop. A convection-microwave oven sits above the cooktop next to a residential refrigerator and a pull-out pantry. Counter space is less plentiful than in some floor plans, so spreading out onto the dinette table may be required for more involved food prep operations.
The side-aisle bathroom is efficiently sized but gets the job done. It features a solid-surface counter with an undermount stainless-steel sink, matching wood cabinetry, and a walk-in shower with a glass sliding door. The bath is accessible with the slideouts retracted.
Locking sliding doors open to allow entry into the bedroom, and sliders with frosted glass inserts at the rear of the room close off the closet/office space. The bedroom opens up nicely with the opposing slides expanded, leaving ample space around the 72-inch-by-80-inch king bed. The head of the bed is positioned in the streetside slideout. The cabinet above the padded headboard features a space for CPAP storage, which allows use of the machine without having it take up room on the bedside table.
Across from the bed is wardrobe storage, including cabinets and drawers on either side of the window and a cabinet to house an optional washer and dryer below. An LED TV is mounted above for enjoying while in bed.
Speaking of beds, the Frontier GTX can be outfitted with Fleetwood’s Hide-A-Loft power drop-down bunk above the driver’s compartment, which can sleep two. So, if the sofa sleeper is also selected, the motorhome can sleep six comfortably.
EXTERIOR, SYSTEMS
Outside, the GTX is a very modern-looking unit. The front and rear caps have a sporty European design. A unique wiper system is mounted above the windshield. The coach features frameless tinted windows and an attractive full-body paint treatment.
The unit contains up to 190 square feet of basement storage, accessible via side-swinging slam-latch baggage doors, which can be opened when the slideouts are extended. The Freedom Sport Foundation allows for an innovative French-door-style design that makes it easy to retrieve or stow large items. On the door side, the lateral-arm awning is attached to the slide box, with an outside entertainment center underneath.
From a systems standpoint, the Frontier GTX has everything you’d expect from a motorhome at this price point, and they are controlled via the Firefly multiplex system. Heating and domestic hot water are supplied via an Aqua-Hot 400D diesel hydronic heating system, and interior cooling is provided via three roof-mounted air conditioners. The residential refrigerator, induction cooktop, and convection-microwave oven are standard, and a WiFiRanger Sky Pro 4 with LTE, a 300-watt solar panel, and a cellular booster are optional.
As noted, the entire package is mounted on Fleetwood’s Freedom Sport Foundation, which is built on Freightliner’s XCR chassis — powered by a 360-horsepower Cummins 6.7-liter diesel that delivers 800 pound-feet of torque. An Allison 3000 MH gearbox provides a smooth transition of the engine’s torque to the road. The chassis comes standard with Freightliner’s BrakeSync factory-installed and warranted integrated air supply for towed vehicle supplemental braking systems.
The Frontier GTX debuted with the 2023 model year. According to company officials, changes for 2024 primarily include updates to the exterior graphics, interior décor options, and cabinetry. However, they did note several additions. One is the Showermiser, which allows RVers to save water while dry camping by recirculating shower water back to the fresh tank until the water reaches the desired temperature. An accumulator tank, designed to improve water pressure, especially during showers, has been added as well. And Freightliner Custom Chassis has introduced its VFS Front Suspension, which provides a larger capacity on the front axle and a more stable ride with outboard-mounted air bags.
The Fleetwood Frontier GTX 37RT is an amazingly well-thought-out floor plan, especially for those who desire a mix of home living comfort and peaceful, well-equipped working space. The RV seems to have almost every amenity one could want in a modern, attractive package.
Space may be the final frontier, but this Fleetwood will do very nicely exploring frontiers closer to home.
