Prevost Car Inc. has announced several NHTSA recalls.
The first is NHTSA recall 12V300000, which affects 2012 model-year VIP-45, X3-45, and XLII conversion coaches built from April 22, 2011, through June 7, 2012. The potential number of coaches involved is 52.
On the affected coaches, the steering gearbox bolts may be too long to be sufficiently torqued. Over time, the bolts could begin to loosen and lead to reduced steering function, which could increase the risk of a crash.
A Prevost dealer will install new steering gearbox bolts. The repair is expected to take approximately 45 minutes.
The second is NHTSA recall 12V315000, which affects 2007 through 2009 model-year X3-45 coaches equipped with Volvo D13 engines and built from June 3, 2005, through May 8, 2009. The potential number of coaches involved is 428.
On the affected coaches, the jump-start positive terminal block cable may be missing a protective sleeve, which could allow a short-circuit to occur if the cable comes in contact with other vehicle structures. A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire.
A Prevost dealer will inspect the cable and, as necessary, add a protective sleeve. The repair is expected to take approximately 15 minutes.
The third is NHTSA recall 12V337000, which affects 2011 through 2013 model-year X3-45 and XLII-45 Entertainer coaches built from November 24, 2010, through July 3, 2012. The potential number of coaches involved is 310.
On the affected coaches, the power cables may come in contact with, or rub against, sharp, abrasive edges. This action could wear through the power cables and potentially lead to a short circuit or fire, increasing the risk of personal injury.
A Prevost dealer will inspect the power cables, repair them if necessary, and reroute them away from the sharp, abrasive edges. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.
Because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer time period than the estimated time noted. Owner notification for all of these recalls was expected to begin in July 2012. For more information, contact Prevost at (866) 870-2046 or (418) 831-2046.
Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 12V395000, which affects 2011 and 2012 model-year 21PC Popular and 21VC Versatile motorhomes built from October 1, 2010, through November 12, 2011. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 145.
On the affected motorhomes built on Chevrolet 3500 van chassis, the 3/16-inch-by-1-inch aluminum pop rivets used to secure the awning brackets to the motorhome sidewall may be defective. The heads of the pop rivets may separate from the rivet body, allowing the bracket and Thule awning to come off the motorhome when the awning is operated, which could result in personal injury or could cause damage to the unit.
A Roadtrek dealer will remove the Thule box awning, install an additional stainless-steel rivet on each of the awning brackets, and then reinstall the awning. The repair is expected to take approximately 75 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
For more information, contact Roadtrek at (888) 762-3873 or (519) 745-1169. Owner notification was expected to begin in August 2012.
Winnebago Industries Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 12V389000, which affects 2012 model-year Itasca Cambria, Impulse, Impulse Silver, Meridian, Navion, Navion IQ, Reyo, Suncruiser, Sunova, and Sunstar motorhomes; 2012 model-year Winnebago Access, Access Premier, Adventurer, Aspect, Era, Sightseer, Via, View, View Profile, and Vista motorhomes; and 2013 model-year Winnebago Chalet motorhomes built from March 1, 2012, through March 21, 2012. The potential number of vehicles involved is 44.
On the affected motorhomes, there may be a defect in the copper propane tubing. A cutting machine may have scored the copper tubing, resulting in unknown long-term reliability. If the copper tubing fails, propane can escape, leading to a fire or explosion, which can result in property damage, personal injury, or death.
A Winnebago Industries dealer will replace the copper tubing. The repair is expected to take approximately one to four hours, depending on the number of copper tube lines that need to be replaced. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
For more information, contact Winnebago Industries at (641) 585-6939. Owner notification was expected to begin in September 2012.
