With 40 active families, the Gold Diggers chapter is a relatively small group. Perhaps because of that, everyone knows and enjoys each other immensely. If we don’t see someone at one rally, we are sure to see them at the next.
The chapter met for the first time on September 27, 1990, at the Cal Expo in Sacramento, California. Roger Klatt, then Western Area national vice president, called the meeting to order. Leonard Ostrow founded the new chapter, and Vincent Spano was elected the first president.
Today, the Gold Diggers chapter encompasses the Gold Country of northern California, specifically the Sacramento region. However, members also reside in Fresno, Pleasanton, Sonora, San Jose, Castro Valley, and beyond.
The chapter schedules rallies every other month, beginning in January during the Western Area Rally in Indio, California. Our members volunteer at that rally, and we have had more fun than you can imagine participating in the parade. In addition, the chapter’s much-anticipated Thanksgiving rally has been held annually for the last 25 years.
The Gold Diggers chapter has produced an FMCA national secretary; the chapter also has provided the Western Motor Home Association of FMCA with a president and three treasurers.
