Recall Corner: September 2009

October 1, 2009

Newmar Corporation has announced NHTSA recall 09V260000, which affects 2008 Kountry Star diesel pusher; 2008 and 2009 All-Star mid-engine and Ventana diesel pusher; and 2009 and 2010 Dutch Star diesel pusher motorhomes manufactured from April 16, 2007, to April 22, 2009. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 328.

On the affected motorhomes, an inadvertent deviation in ground cable sizing occurred for specific electric leveling systems, resulting in undersized wire gauge being used. Undersized electrical conductors may result in conductor failure, possibly creating an electrical shock or fire hazard.

A Newmar dealer will install properly sized ground cable. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Newmar at (800) 731-8300. Owner notification for this recall had not been scheduled as of press time.

Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 09V264000, which affects 2009 Roadtrek 17PC Type B motorhomes built on Chevrolet 2500 van chassis and manufactured from August 26, 2008, to June 30, 2009. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 23.

On the affected motorhomes, a brass tee connector fitting used to connect the copper piping from the motorhome’s LP-gas storage tank to the brass fitting assembly behind the refrigerator may be defective. This connector could leak with vehicle usage, vibrations, etc., resulting in a possible fire hazard. As a warning to the presence of an LP-gas leak, vehicle owners may notice a distinct rotten egg smell.

A Roadtrek dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the defective tee connector fitting. The repair is expected to take approximately 90 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information about this recall, contact Roadtrek at (888) 762-3873. Owner notification was expected to begin in July 2009.
