Recall Corner: January 2013

January 1, 2013

Fleetwood RV Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 12V535000, which affects 2010 model-year Encounter, 2011 through 2013 model-year Storm, and 2012 model-year Terra E motorhomes built from November 19, 2009, through September 18, 2012. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 842.

On the affected vehicles, the motorhome entry step lacks sufficient support and may separate from the subfloor, possibly resulting in personal injury and property damage.

A Fleetwood RV dealer will inspect and reinforce the entry step structural support. Damaged entry step structural support components will be repaired or replaced as required. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information, contact Fleetwood RV at (800) 509-3418. Owner notification was expected to begin in December 2012.

Thor Motor Coach has announced NHTSA recall 12V516000, which affects 2008 and 2009 model-year Four Winds Fun Mover, Presidio, and Windsport; 2008 through 2010 model-year Four Winds Chateau (Kodiak chassis), Hurricane, and Mandalay; and 2009 model-year Four Winds Dutchmen (Kodiak chassis) and Magellan motorhomes built June 1, 2007, through May 1, 2009, and equipped with Iota ITS-50R transfer switches. The potential number of vehicles involved is 634.

On the affected motorhomes, the Iota ITS-50R transfer switch may experience a heat-related failure when exposed to elevated electrical loads associated with RV use in higher ambient temperatures. The connections at the buss bar inside the switch are not adequate, resulting in elevated operating temperatures. This potentially could lead to a fire, which could result in property damage, personal injury, or death.

A Thor Motor Coach dealer will replace the Iota ITS-50R transfer switch. The repair is expected to take approximately 60 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

For more information, contact Thor Motor Coach at (877) 500-1020. Owner notification began in November2012.

Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. announced NHTSA recall 12V526000, which affects 2010 through 2013 model-year Allegro Bus motorhomes built from March 2010 through September 2012 and equipped with Cummins EPA 2010 ISL engines. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 847.

On the affected motorhomes, insufficient shielding between the exhaust pipe and floor could lead to overheating. Should the exhaust pipe in the engine compartment fail, the escaping exhaust gases could make the floor area extremely hot, increasing the risk of personal injury and possibly leading to a fire.

A Tiffin Motorhomes dealer will install a heat shield between the exhaust pipe and the coach floor.
For more information, contact Tiffin Motorhomes at (256) 356-8661. An owner notification schedule had not been established as of press time.
