Tech & Travel Tips: March 2015

Level Parking

We all know the importance of the motorhome being relatively level when parked — for efficient operation of the refrigerator and also for comfort inside the RV. Normally, when settling in to a new site, the driver has to move the motorhome back and forth while the copilot stands next to the bubble levels inside and gives directions to help level the vehicle

We all know the importance of the motorhome being relatively level when parked — for efficient operation of the refrigerator and also for comfort inside the RV. Normally, when settling in to a new site, the driver has to move the motorhome back and forth while the copilot stands next to the bubble levels inside and gives directions to help level the vehicle. I decided that it would be easier to have bubble levels in a spot where the driver could see them.

So, we spent a few minutes in a large, empty parking lot finding a place where the bullet level on the freezer floor of the refrigerator was completely level. I then affixed two small bubble levels to the dashboard — one side to side and another fore and aft — making sure they also showed that the coach was level. Now, when parking, the driver can quickly see when the coach is level, and the need to run back and forth to the fridge is eliminated.

Toilet Paper Holder

We used to keep spare rolls of toilet paper under our sink, but with limited space they weren’t easy to reach. Also, they tended to roll around when our coach was moving. So, I purchased a countertop paper towel holder with a weighted nonslip bottom. It fits nicely into a small unused corner of our bathroom, holds three rolls that we can reach easily, and doesn’t move during travel.

Mug Protectors

I came up with a great way to make use of the many foam-insulated beverage holders that were in the drawers of our motorhome. I place one between each mug in our overhead cabinet. This helps to prevent rattling and breakage. It’s simple, but effective.
