Recall Corner: February 2015

February 1, 2015

Newmar Corporation has announced NHTSA recall 14V620000, which involves certain model-year 2014-2015 Essex motorhomes manufactured from February 15, 2013, to June 4, 2014, and built on Freightliner chassis. The potential number of motorhomes affected is 20.

In the affected vehicles, the rear axle jack mounting bracket may be attached too close to the rear suspension air bag, which might cause the bracket to rub against the air bag. That could result in air leaking from the air bag and a suspension collapse, increasing the risk of a crash.

Newmar has notified owners about the recall, which began in November 2014. Dealers will reposition the bracket to create a gap between it and the air bag. For more information about this recall, contact Newmar at (800) 731-8300.

Thor Motor Coach has announced NHTSA recall 14V695000, which involves certain model-year 2015 Four Winds 5000, Hurricane, Miramar, Chateau Citation, Chateau, Four Winds Siesta, Windsport, and Freedom Elite motorhomes manufactured from August 7, 2014, to October 17, 2014. The potential number of affected motorhomes is 215.

The affected vehicles have Carefree awnings with mounting brackets that may crack. A cracked bracket might break apart and fall, increasing the risk of injury to anyone under the awning.
Thor has notified owners about the recall, which began in November 2014. Dealers will replace the defective mounting brackets. For more information about this recall, contact Thor at (877) 855-2867.

  • "We were stranded along a narrow road near Bryce Canyon, Utah. The location was not a good place for cellular service, but I was able to contact Roadside Rescue and arrange for a tow after driving our towed vehicle to the town of Bryce. I had to speak with several people at Roadside Rescue, but each person I spoke with was respectful and courteous. The tow was set up and our rig taken to a place that promptly took care of the repair and we were back on the road in 24 hours." Michael & Lynn Noonan (F448134)

  • "Winter! Some love it, some hate it. Winter is a time when there is a stillness in the air but there is also a dryness which can lead to issues with our immune system. Couple that with shorter days, lack of sunlight (which can lead to low energy levels), layers of clothing to keep our skin from absorbing the nutrients of Vitamin D from the sun (crucial for maintaining a strong immune system), and lack of proper hydration due to not feeling thirsty (caused by to cooler temps and less perspiration); ALL of this can lead to our immune systems
